This is the upmarket standard of restaurant that you would expect to find in the wealthier suburbs of a major city. But when you realize that Havelock North is the service center of rural Hawkes Bay, probably the richest fruit and vegetable growing area in NZ (including major wineries), then its only to be expected that it caters for a discerning clientele. The building is a bit overdone in trying to ape Yee Oldee English, but the atmosphere and overall effect is fine. The service excellent and although we were there on the busiest night of the week no great delay for the meals which were all (four different ones) of excellent quality. And the cost? very reasonable, a lot less than similar quality in Auckland , Wellington or Taupo.

While many reviews talk about the good pub grub the adjoining cafe serves outstanding creations by the italian trained french chef. The apple pie is out of this world. Perfectly created buttery pastry topped with sensational caramelized apple that offers a texture and subtle sweetness that only the best chef can muster through years of practice. The handmade pasta on offer is true to the Italian experience and ususal cafe offering eggs benedict has the touch of class only found in high end establishment of Europe. The service is understated and the portion of all dishes ordered substantial without being lost in sauce or seasoning. The prices are cafe standard and there is indoor and outdoor games for the kids and young at heart. Free parking.Interesting kiwiana and vintage interior creates a calm and vibrant atmosphere. You need to return to try all the French inspired sweets with the superb kiwi coffee.

Superb food, great service and a friendly bar, makes Diva an exciting local and out of town experience, serving lunch, dinner bar platters and great coffee. ...Diva Bistro & Bar found in the heart of vibrant Havelock North village.
My friend had made arrangements to meet friends at another restaurant, but they were not happy with that venue, so we ended up visiting Diva Bistro recommended by one of the other friends. The decor was attractive, together with superb food and service.Definitely worth a visit and if I had stayed longer no doubt would have gone back. Also just to add that I really enjoy visiting Havelock North.
