Fun atmosphere! Pork nachos were delicious. We also had the burger and fries- burger was slightly dry but fries were good. The kids loved their gummy worm slushies. We were there over the 4th weekend and although there were tons of people, they remained organized. There was a pretty long wait for food, but they were slammed. Music was loud, but added to the atmosphere- it was a beach party after all. :)

Casual Fine Dining on the shores of Lake Huron. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner open year around.
Rather disappointing this year compared to past years. Service was sketchy at best. Not all foods described in the event flier when the reservation was made were actually on the buffet. Examples includes the peel and eat shrimp. We asked, and were told "those are gone, they went early". ( Why is that our problem?) There were no deviled eggs. The "green beans with bacon, onions and mushrooms" were in reality green beans with what looked and tasted like a few canned mushrooms as a garnish. Tortilla chips and "fruit salsa" was actually tortilla chips with frozen strawberry slices and mushy frozen raspberries dumped into a bowl. Nothing "salsa" about that. We were seated immediately at the stated reservation time by a friendly and well organized hostess, but waited over ten minutes for our server to take our drink order then say she would bring us silverware. Well, that did not happen. We filled our salad plates, came back to the table, no flatware. Looked for a server, none found. We went and filled dinner plates, returned, still no flatware. After several minutes waiting while our food got cold I finally got up and went into the servers station looking for myself. A different server came in to the station and got me flatware (fork and knife) and napkins. Our server came by several minutes later with my date's tea, forgetting my coffee. No spoon was provided. She brought my coffee minutes later left without any spoons provided. I again got up, went into the serving area, and was helped with spoons by a busboy. We asked for glasses of water, and she brought one, not two. (This is not drought-ravaged California for crying out loud - 1/5 of the World's fresh water is 100 feet from where we were eating!) The pork loin was dry as shoe leather. The ham and turkey were very good. "Artisan cheeses" were colby-jack, cheddar and pepper jack cubes that looked like the ones from GFS. Cheezy potatoes were good. There were several people asking where were the cranberries? (None) This was not IMHO worth $25. It did not even include a soft drink nor coffee. We likely wont be back for another holiday buffet meal. I think the East Tawas Big Boy's buffet would be at least this good, have far better service, at half the cost.
The Buckhorn Inn is a local watering hole missed by most of the tourist traffic. It is just out of town, west of the main drag (US 23) located at 483 W M 55, Tawas City, MI 48763. If you are looking for a bar and grill that offers fair prices and good food then the Buckhorn Inn is the place to go. Come as you are and bring your friends, you won't be disappointed!

This is becoming one of our regular stops whenever we're in the Tawas area. Tonight we both had Shrimp Del Rey. Marinated shrimp, cooked on a skewer on a bed of wild rice. Delicious. Two craft beers, one hard cider for wife, two shrimp del Rey. Total bill under $50

Over the past 6 months I have had the pleasure of spending time in Tawas City/East Tawas on business. âBarnyâsâ is my go-to. The bar staff is outstanding. Special shout out to Haley, Darian, Morgan, and Shannon! The food there is very good as well. Highly recommend.

Good food. Especially the whitefish. Itâs a typical family joint where most food is friend. Simple, but tasty dishes. We went in the Friday if Labor Day and the place was packed and short staffed. It took 15 mins to get a drink order, another 35 for food and 15 more to flag someone down for the check. Wait staff nice, just simply overworked/overwhelmed.

New restaurant in the former Chum's Bar location. Pretty good food.
First time there, always looked like fun place. Ate inside and there was no ambience in the dining room. It wasnât as clean as we like a restaurant to be(including the ladies room). The food was good and so was the waitress, but just didnât click. Donât think weâd go back.

The Boathouse is a great find in northern Michigan! This restaurant was fantastic. The interior of the place is very classy, with some bar-area seating, and more traditional dining seating adjacent. Getting a table near the large windows looking out over Lake Huron is simply beautiful, and a wonderful ambience...the views are gorgeous. There are also a couple of tables available outside on the front porch/deck. The staff here was wonderful. My server was very friendly, and made for a great experience. The food was very good. I had a baked fish dish for the special, and enjoyed the entire meal. The drink list here is also excellent; I particularly liked the "Don Johnson" drink, based on whiskey, Michigan maple syrup, and bacon bits...it really was a fantastic drink. I also had a beer sampler, and overall the beer was so-so. But, I appreciated that the beer was made onsite, and the other drink options were fantastic.I can't wait to go back.
