We landed here by chance, recommend by another restaurant. We were meant to just have a drink and move on, but we stayed the whole night. This is really an amazing place and we had a great evening. We enjoyed yummy Nachos followed by the best tasting cocktails in Stellies. The atmosphere was amazing and the bartenders were very charming.

We really liked our diner in this nice place. We especially appreciate the retro-style decoration. Our food was good but not overwhelming. The Bobotie was a bit too sweet and the fish overcooked. Nethertheless, we enjoyed our dinner there thanks also to the friedndly staff.

They offered great breakfast and the service is good. The only downside is that I wanted to work and there was no Wi-Fi. Visited with a group of friends. Took four attempts and approx 15 minutes to get a waiter top serve us. Couldn't believe our eyes when literally 5 minutes later, a group of tourists walked in and literally had five waiters dancing around trying to serve them.Waited almost an hour for our meals and then they got delivered, half the order was wrong.So yes, if you're a tourist, you'll have amazing service, if you're a local, don't hold your breathe.

I wrote an appreciative review of this little cafe/restaurant a while ago. Since then, I've been back, and I was sorry to find that standards are slipping. The house speciality, 'roosterkoek' (griddle cake), which used to be freshly baked and hot, arrived cold and pallid, not even toasted. The 'cheddar' was semi-processed, pre-sliced and rubbery. One of my companions did not receive the promised pesto on his platter -- a small detail, but representative of the lack of attention to detail. And then, I suppose for some customers it's a plus point that they're allowed to smoke on the terrace outside, but the tables are so close together that it can be really unpleasant if someone is smoking at the next table or even two tables away. It would be a pity if Stomme Jonge went the way of so many restaurants in Stellenbosch -- great to begin with, and then fading into mediocrity. I like the place, and would like to see it upping its game.

Have been to Java a lot during my years as a student. Service is always good, but can sometimes take a bit too long. The food is tasteful but don't come here if you're looking for big portions. It's more about the vibe and the coffee. The pizza special is pretty nice though.

Food was awesome, brownies were amazing. Great Gin and Beer. Lovely service from our waitor Steff and excellent manager Louis. Really a spectacular atmosphere to relax in and felt very taken care of. I definitely recommend coming here to experience their craft.

Visited the pub for some early evening drinks. Great spot , well laid out. Also has a deli and butchery. Great selection of beer and wine . Service great with friendly knowledgable staff.
