Me and my brother went for lunch here yesterday and what a disappointment. Over and over. First our table was dirty then we had to wait ages just for our order of drinks which when finally arrived were wrong. Our food took ages to arrive and was also wrong. Food wasnât overly nice at all. It seems the waitress didnât even try to hear what we said we wanted. We were constantly waiting for every stage including when we were paying and the waitress passed us several times like sheâd forgotten we had just asked her for the card machine. Honestly I wouldnât bother coming in here. Youâll waste your time and money when there are other restaurant literally steps away. Wish we had gone elsewhere!

Hadn't eaten here in years but we decided to come to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We were seated in a nice booth, atmosphere was great and decor is fab. Introduced to our waitress, she took our order and then brought our drinks. One of the drinks was wrong, and then when the food came they brought plain fries instead of the bacon and cheesy fries we had upgraded to, and then my Dad had to ask 2 different waitresses for a fork. We didn't see our waitress after that until we had to get up to ask for the bill. The food was really nice and it was a good night, we also got a free cake as it was my boyfriends birthday. However, when we got home we realised that they had overcharged us as they hadn't accounted for the starter/main deal that they had advertised to us. We had to ring up and then go back to get a refund.

We came upon this pub after going for a ride round with our friends, who live in Mexborough, and what a find it was!. A superb pub, situated on a hill with views across the valley, which is truly breathtaking. We were served by a lovely young lady called Amber, who talked us through the menu and took our order. When the food arrived it looked wonderful and tasted divine. Sadly, there was just too much but we ate what we could. Then we were asked if we wanted dessert!! What a silly question!Of course we did. I had the strawberry roulade which was probably the nicest roulade I've ever tried and if you saw the size of me you'd know I've had a few!! The ambiance in the pub is so relaxing and even though it was very busy,it wasn't uncomfortable at all.For the quality of the food the prices are very good and we will definitely be making a return visit.

What an absolute gem....The Black Lion is in a small village but always seems busy which is not surprising as the food is excellent, the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had sunday lunch and a couple of evening meals while staying in the village. The chefs went above and beyond for us on all visits. The waiting staff were friendly and very attentive. We wish it was our local...absolutely fabulous.

Traditional home cooked food, bar, celebration venue for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, work meetings, weddings and funerals, live music, extensive drinks menu. Function room available
Service was extremely slow, although the staff were pleasant. Ordered salmon with fresh vegetables neither lived up to expectations, the salmon was tasteless the vegetables obviously microwaved even though they were described on the menu as fresh. Also ordered beef stroganoff, which had a harsh taste, the beef was tough and the accompanying chips barely warm. On complaining we were offered a complimentary dessert which we declined, we donât eat desserts. The last time we ate here was 8 or 9 months and thought we would give it another try. Sadly it has not improved. HelloThank you for taking the time to leave your review. Would you mind emailing me at [email protected] further details of yoru visit date and time so i can look into this further and resolve for youYour feedback is very much welcomed
