Things to do in Preston
I'm the first person to write a complimentary review if a place deserves it, but unfortunately I feel the need to state my disappointment in my experience for my birthday dinner tonight. I booked for 6 of us for dinner. Four adults, two kids. I had been to Sonny's before and ordered a tasting platter, coffee and tiramisu and it was lovely, so I thought I'd celebrate my birthday with my family there. The fit out at Sonny's is fantastic, great Italian feeling artwork and old family photos and Italian playing cards on the tables. That's where it ends. The menu is very small. Around 6 items only. I would have expected those 6 items to be perfect. My parents ordered the sardines for $17. They came as three little sardines on a skewer rolled up on a couple of leaves of salad. They were nice enough, but very expensive for what they were. My husband and I ordered the Spezzatino con polenta. Promising slow cooked beef cheeks with red wine and herbs served with polenta. NO! This was definitely not what this was. It not only looked very unappealing (like a plate of slop served in a jail), but it tasted horrible. It was lacking flavour and it looked like a meat pie had been opened up and poured on the plate. As an Italian, who enjoys and has eaten in plenty of Italian restaurants, this was a disappointing and insulting dish and it was $21 for basically three tiny pieces of beef and a few other strands, in a disgusting brown sauce. I am really embarrassed to have invited my parents to this restaurant. There is nothing for kids to eat on this menu, so I asked for the fusilli pasta to be served plain with oil only. We were served the fusilli with quattro formaggi. I told them this was wrong. They served us a plain one but we were still charged for the quattro formaggi plate as they said we may as well eat it anyway. $19 for a plate of packet fusilli with oil! We queried it but were told we were charged only for the plain one - STILL $19! The only saving grace was the homemade foccacia. A menu with one pasta dish, in an Italian restaurant and I expect it to be handmade pasta or they need to charge a lot less. I am so disappointed as this was my birthday dinner and it was terrible. I am really sorry Sonny's bottega but you need a lot of work to improve your menu. I will not return or recommend. After being ripped off $163, I would much rather spend my money on really good home style food in a much better restaurant, with less loud and annoying music.

The Cornish Arms attacts a young crowd who want to have fun. Young families are welcome. The on-tap beer is all vegan, there are lots of vegan food options. Booking in advance is advisable, The night I visited the dining room was booked out. The Cornish Arms holds a trivia quiz on Thursday night and also on Sunday afternoon. The beer is cold and the staff are friendly, what nore could you want?

Cute little cafe / restaurant at the top end of High Street and is a stand out. The curious name is deceiving but the food isnât. An interesting menu of pizzas but not too many choices which was good. We had 4 pizzas- a meatball, sweet potato, lamb and matriccana. All the pizzas were so good and just loved the crust. Good sizes that cover the whole plate. To add to our culinary treat my son and I had a cider each. There is a choice of eating inside or out and in the morning youâd have he lovely sun on you. Only downside was no cutlery and the music was a little loud. Staff are fabulous and the service is good. Kid friendly. Good parking with one hour limit. No high chairs.

Went here for both our daughters birthdays. Its been a old garage that they have renovated tastefully with a huge restaurant area and pool table The menu is quite extensive and caters for most food lovers and people with food allergies. It has some quirky toys for the tiny ones plus colouring books and pencils which is always a bonus to keep them entertained. The service was very friendly the two girls we had serving us were a delight and very friendly and efficient. Most had Goat Ragu which was really different. Slow cooked and very tender at $27. Some had Chicken Schnitzel which was large and thick but far too much Coleslaw on the plate. Maybe some salad or chips or a mix of both for presentation. One had Gnocchi which was delicious. Kids had Meatballs which were really well cooked. The meals were very fresh and nice and hot on serving. Most mains were around $27 and kids meals $12Drinks .......beers $6.50 so reasonable. A Aperol Spritz $16 a little on the expensive side. Mocktails at $9 and glasses of wine anything from $9 the cheapest to $14 a glass... remember thats not a full glass by any means. So drinks and mains a bit on the expensiveside we thoughtBut it was enjoyed by all for a special occasion being such a large restaurant you certainly didn't feel you were sitting on top of people there was plenty of room to make it feel very personal and comfortable even although it was full and busy being a Friday night. Parking us easy out the front around the side streets. Would we return maybe not but then it is Melbourne so lots of choice but would recommend a visit

Just hosted a function for a large group of friends and family and the Stolberg and found the venue to be one of the best Iâve ever been too. There are 5 different function rooms here to cater for different size and types of functions. The function staff and bar management staff were very attentive and accommodating with our requests. The food was just awesome and all of our guests thought there was plenty of food, and the quality of the food was exceptional.Iâve recommended this venue to our friends and am sure thereâs a few who would be considering booking their functions here in the near future.Iâd definitely return for my next function and itâs also a great place even to have a beer and food too!
