Reviews on Bar food in Porthleven, Helston, England. Porthleven (/ˌpɔːrθˈlɛvən/) is a town, civil parish and fishing port near Helston in Cornwall. It is the most southerly port on the island of Great Britain, and was originally developed as a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was recognised as a black spot for wrecks in days of sail. Nearby Loe Bar was particularly infamous, with swimmers and surfers being warned off the area. Porthleven has many large areas of social and council housing. An electoral ward called Porthleven and Helston South also exists. The population at the 2011 census was 3,059.

We were a party of 15 people and we were made very welcome by very friendly and polite staff. Nice to see happy staff and experienced. The menu was extensive with lots of lovely dishes to choose from. I chose a fillet steak with peppercorn sauce which was delicious and cooked how I wanted. Nobody was kept waiting, all the food came out together and that is hard to do with a large party. I will certainly recommend you to my friends. Thankyou once again for a most enjoyable evening in lovely surroundings.

The Maytree was the nearest pub within walking distance of our holiday accommodation, so should have been frequented much more than we did. Why? i hear you ask. Being a couple of advanced years, though not yet totally dilapidated, a certain level of customer service is expected, albeit experience has taught us to be skeptical. We visited the pub early to mid afternoon (after the lunchtime rush). The staff were nowhere to be seen, eventually a young man bearing a number of used plates etc acknowledged my presence at the bar (so far so good) and continued on his quest to the kitchens. A young lady then appeared indicating that she was prepared to serve.I placed my order 1 pint and a house double spirit. The short was presented in a pint glass of questionable cleanliness.(so far so bad). Being of stalwart disposition i decided to have another pint, the good lady decided against. I manfully approached the bar again, no staff again! I have reason to believe that two staff members were sitting a a table near to the kitchen entrance having their break, engrossed as people are, on their mobile phones. Neither of them seemed inclined to alert a fully working colleague to my presence. Being a grumpy old so and so i collected my good lady and left, never to be seen again.Shame really, as it was the only hostelry i visited that served anything other than cooking lager.

The Queenâs Arms is a family-friendly pub in the heart of the village of Breage, Cornwall, just two miles from the picturesque fishing village of Porthleven, three miles outside the market town of Helston famous for its Flora Dance each May, and a 12-minu
We were lucky to camp near this pub for our Cornish holiday. It really is everything you want to find when you walk into a pub. A warm welcome, excellent beer and a tempting menu. We are here several times and it was all of an excellent quality and generous portions. Probably my favorite meal was their vegetable pasta dish which so often is an apology for the veggies to eat from pub menues. At the Queens Arms it was a delicious treat that had obviously been cooked by someone who cares to make food tasty. The beer is top notch! An interesting, changing selection which is so well kept. I had a perfect pint of London Pride here, better than many a London pub. We will be back again because we love this area and specially this pub and their pub quiz!We work hard to make sure our menu is balanced and interesting for all tastes and dietary needs, so are so pleased to hear that this has come through. Thank you for your support during your stay nearby and for taking the time to leave a review.

Good beers with plenty of variety, and with RNAS Culdrose nearby good to see the Curio Fly Navy Gin. I settled upon seafood chowder followed by pork medallions on black pudding, the rest started with scallops and one with venison steak the other also with pork medallions. Service was excellent, the food piping hot, the staff great and the puddings very naughty. Recommend it to everyone

Eating in the bar offers simple classic food, such as Scotch eggs, Buttermilk chicken & avocado burger, Cornish steak sandwich, or a stunning Porthleven crab salad. Henlys serves an array of fresh, flavoursome dishes, from Seared Scallops sourced just up
Me and the misses have been coming here for months and have never had a bad meal. The Ginger chap behind the gave us exceptional service. Followed by the best burger in TOWN by far which blows boo koos out of the water. The misses is a vegetarian for her sins and henlys catered for her with ease. This bar/restaurant is a nice chilled out venue were if you need to wind down and eat well this is the place to come in helston.Wow! Thank you for this amazing review! We can't take all the credit, our butchers C&E Retallack's supply us with the best quality burgers which are just as outstanding as their amazing steaks (sorry Vegetarian misses!)We hope to have the pleasure to keep welcoming you back!

Lovely friendly locals pub with beautiful sea views from a terrace, serving home cooked food, locally brewed ales and a good selection of largers and other beverages.
This pub was just a few doors away from where we were staying and with 4 adults plus 3 young children was a great place to go for an early evening tea that was not pricey. A bit up the hill but the views are great. A good selection of beers, nice friendly staff and good food.

Drank here most nights, itâs a olde world pub think itâs 17th century, right on the harbour side.Drinks prices and choice were good, we had a few meals here, start doing food after 6, you can not book so need to get a table early, foods really nice, 1 of the best scampi we have ever had, pet friendly too.

Tucked away in the old quarter of Penzance, The Cornish Barn is a rustic restaurant, bar and smokehouse in Penzance serving a wholesome menu with a focus on fresh Cornish produce â all helped along by craft beers and wines from local independent vineyards
We had drinks here one night, and came back the next night for dinner. We loved the warm, cosy decor, good choice of drinks and pretty good food. The only thing that wasnât great was the service; a lot of errors both times, the staff were friendly but lacked professionalism. They forgot to bring menus and to seat us in the restaurant until well after the reservation time, and every drinks order was messed up. All in all, however, we forgave the slapdash service because the ambiance and food made up for it. We would go again if we were in the area.Good evening honeyHenleyonThames,Thank you for your time writing this review.I am happy to hear that you loved the atmosphere of the Restaurant, and I will be sure to pass on your comments about the food on to the kitchen.I am sorry that the service was not to the standards that you wanted. Please feel free to contact the management team via phone or by emailing us at [email protected] to provide some extra information, so that we can work to insure that this does not happen again. We appreciate all feedback to help our eccentric charmed slice of Penzance grow.Kind RegardsRyanDuty manager
