We were at the Black Chasm cave national monument. The friendly and knowlegable staff person gave us food choices in VolcanoHis grandfather was the famous Bob the bartender. He said to give Bob as good as we got to keep him on his toes. Great funAnd the food was good alsoHe told us the place had burned down three times but the bar itself had survived

So glad I get to write about this place! We loved it. We stopped in while walking across the country on The Great American Walkabout. It is eclectic and fantastic. Hotel, restaurant, bar, and night life. It is a great place to stay as it is only a few miles from Tahoe and has the best food around. They have bands and events here, and this place has atmosphere. The hotel rooms are all named for Wild West figures, are spacious and comfortable, and the food is terrific. We had a chance to meet the owner, Bud, who spent some time with us and shared a bit of BBQ. We didn't want to leave so we stayed the night and headed to Tahoe in the morning. This is actually one of the few places in all my travels I can't wait to return to. Super awesome bartenders too!

Went for dinner tonight and enjoyed a tuna sandwich on toasted rye bread. Good flavor and loaded with albacore. My friend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and says itâs always good. Staff is very cordial and responsive. The homemade apple pie truly homemade and had a nice scoop of ice cream on top. This is where the locals go to enjoy a meal and even watch sports on the TVs around the bar area.

Perhaps we should give Mace Meadows a few more chances but then again, maybe not. Our visits since they reopened have been real disappointments. The food is not fresh, none of the menu items are particularly interesting or unique, and the service is spotty and inconsistent. We've tried it for breakfast - mediocre - better to go to Blue Moon, Pearl's, or Black's Station. We tried lunch which was largely tasteless, and we tried dinner - frozen fish overcooked, overcooked vegetables and service that left a lot to be desired. We know they had start up issues, but hoped they would get better. So far, that's not the case.

Our breakfast here was.... adequate. They were very busy but our service was good. The menu is HUGE with many choices of HUGE food. My breakfast sandwich was pretty good but really nothing special. Itâs an interesting building with lots of history but the good was uninspired. A good place to go if you want a LOT of mediocre food.

This was a birthday celebration. The weather was beautiful and the outside seating a typical, charming Gold Country setting. The restaurant slowly became busy and the personnel slowly became stressed. It seemed like they needed more personnel. We ordered drinks and proceeded to each order appetizers and entrees. After a longer wait than usual, my husbands appetizer arrived, not delivered by our waitress. We did not like that the appetizers weren't served at the same time. Mine was a warm dish, but I decided to wait for my husband's dish. THIRTY MINUTES LATER, we were informed by the waitress, that she had misunderstood our order and put my husband's dish as an entree. Again, a wait for his appetizer. Unacceptable! Our entrees also took a long time to arrive. We finally asked for the check, the waitress took the card and after a long wait again, came back with the check, but it hadn't been run! Again, we wait and when the check finally arrives, there is no copy! One positive thing: I had informed about my husbands birthday, and desserts were serve with a candle on his. Cute! All in all, this dinner took as long as a prefix in a Michelin star restaurant.
