Read the reviews on here but decided to judge for myself and found the following:1. An empty dimly lit elongated "lounge" at the front with bar are beyond 2. Very weak selection of beers, no premium lager beyond 1664, nothing great in bottles either.3. Only 1 real ale which was dark and uninspiring4. Very noisy locals in the bar 5. Lacklustre serviceDidn't go back, found the Crown just down the street which is the polar opposite of this place.

We have just stayed four nights here in a twin room with sea views. Room was in need of a bit of TLC but it was clean and beds comfy. Very quiet at night. Staff very friendly and excellent breakfast. Parking £10 a day at side of hotel.Thank you so much for your review. We have completely refurbished four rooms, our Mariner rooms. The un refurbished rooms are decorated in a traditional style and this is reflected in the price (but as you mentioned are clean and tidy!) Glad you enjoyed our breakfast and we look forward to welcoming you again.Kindest regardsCarly

A traditional Exmoor Inn. Great beer, friendly staff, wholesome food, good portions, good service and reasonable prices - what's not to like?We had lunch and dinner here and both were highly enjoyable. We even experienced a little of the local culture as part of an extended 'wake' after the funeral of a well respected local, which all added to the colour!A ploughmans and a pint on the tables across the lane overlooking the babbling river in the sunshine is hard to beat...long may it stay this way.

We stayed here a few years ago and made a point of going back, the welcome was so friendly. There is a real family-run feel to this place. The rooms were really comfortable and the food was excellent and surprisingly modestly priced.. Definitely going back.

Very cosy feeling to the pub, food is excellent and reasonably priced. Service top class, warm and friendly welcome. We didnât have a dog but there were plenty there that did. All very well behaved and made to feel at home. If we get the chance we will return.

We had done a whole day of touring with a 15 month old baby at Dunston Castle and the Valley of the Rocks. We were all tired and wanting something special and fast.Thankfully, the staff at Rising Sun Restaurant were quick to put us at the 'bar side' of the restaurant as apparently the table cloth section was fully booked. I prefered this knowing my messy baby. Baby chair was quickly brought and after orders taken, food arrived quick enough.Mussels were very nice, Lobster Bisque was quite light but still flavoursome, seafood platter was not bad as it had a variety (of which i thought my garlic chilli prawns were cooked to perfection) but the highlight was the Turbot. As I was not a local resident in UK, i am informed by family members residing in London that the price of Turbot was always much higher in the capital - i took her word for it.Overall, would we go to the Rising Sun again? Most definitely. We were really pleased you and your family enjoyed your recent meal with us,your lovely comments made about the food have been passed onto our Chefs, and were very much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to the Rising Sun next time you are visiting this beautiful part of North Devon.
