When I found out that local fish restaurant the Fish Tale was closing, I was sad. It's not that the Fish Tale was an awesome restaurant, but it was decent, it was local, and it was one of the few longtime neighborhood restaurants still around. And it was the closest to "fine dining" you find in the Los Altos neighborhood. However, when I was told that an Irish pub was opening in its place, I thought "hum, this might be good." Turns out, this isn't much of an Irish pub - it's a sports bar - lots of TVs, quite loud, all of that. Yes, there are a few "Irish" items on the menu, but in general the menu is focused on sports bar food - buffalo wings, nachos, potato skins, burgers, sandwiches, and a few entrees like meatloaf. That would be fine, if the food was good. I like bar food. Sometimes, I am in the mood for buffalo wings or potato skins or a burger. The problem is, the food isn't that good. Some items are OK (like the burgers and wings), others are less than good (like the fish and chips). The fact is, if I am going to splurge on fatty, spicy bar food, I want it to be really good! Otherwise, why deal with all those calories? It's a bummer, as I'd love to have a good neighborhood joint to go to when we don't feel like cooking - but this just isn't it. We've given it a couple of tries (once shortly after it opened and once more recently), and at this point we've 86ed it.

Service was decent fast. Good veggie club sandwich and beef and blue cheese burger. Quite a few options for beer and floats. Nice environment as well. Nothing to complain except that prices are a bit high. Expect a burger to cost you $16 with taxes and tip with no special customization. Beer, fries are extra so you are easily looking at $25-30 per person.

My uncle, my sister and I had dinner here. It was good. I got a salad that was really good and my drink was good. It was kind of late so there were not a lot of people there but the inside is nice.

We generally like Paul Martin's for a weekend lunch, but yesterday was a considerable disappointment. For starters, they seemed understaffed as the bartender took a long time to ask for our order, forgot to bring requested ice water, and was generally inattentive. I ordered the braised short-rib which came up short in a couple of regards. First was the presentation (actually ugly), and then the fact that it and the accompanying mashed potatoes were barely warm. When I was asked about how my food was, I responded with the above and got an "I'm sorry, and would you like to have it re-cooked?", but by then I was pretty put off and just took the remains home. Before we left, a new bartender and manager showed up, and I shared my experience. I said nicely that, under the circumstances, lots of places would either not have charged for the unsatisfactory entree or at least comped a glass of wine. The response was that they "aren't allowed"to do the latter, and that I should have been offered a free dessert (which they didn't do!). Overall, not great customer service. That will make us think twice before returning.

We stopped in for lunch the other day. A rework of the old lounge bar and business next door. Nice new restaurant and bar. Lunch menu has some goodies on it, wings, salads, grilled cheese, cubano sandwich, burgers and sweets for dessert. We had the grilled cheese and cubano sandwich. Good flavors. they both came with thin style fries. Nice wine selection buy the glass, tap beer and full bar. The bar area has a bar counter, tables and high seating tables with TVs around (we watched the world cup soccer). there is a dining room on the other side of the space with a view of the open kitchen. Friendly staff and locals. they also have a happy hour from 4-7

A teaming large sports bar like environment with (unfortunately) many TVs, and (fortunately) many staff. They were busy on a Saturday night but we managed to get in without a reservation or a wait at 7:30pm.The first sensation is noise and crowds. Every space that could be taken with a table is used and the tables are close together. It was a little deafening and some more sound dampening materials wouldn't go astray. The staff were bustling and there are quite a few of them. We were approached for drinks twice before we had made up our minds, and one more time before I had had the chance to read the menu. The menu is focused on burgers and tacos for food, and beer and bourbon (and Rye / Whiskey). The beer menu was extensive and rotating, and the bourbon menu also looked like an interesting collection of regional breweries. We both ordered burgers, me the 28 day dry aged steak with mushrooms and caramelized onions. This was great at first bite, but got seriously delicious when I hit a pocket of the onions with the mushrooms. The meat was cooked medium rare to perfection. My wife had the Fig burger which was also loaded with tasty and interesting cheese as well as the figs. There were plenty of vegetarian burgers as well.Everything was quick, tasty, great service. The burgers are obviously expensive by US standards, but worth it. A great choice for a tasty and satisfying treat, but nothing extra special.
