Went with a handful of girlfriends to share apps and have a couple drinks. Great location. Lots of parking. Service was fast and friendly. We shared some apps which were absolutely great. Wings, mushroom caps and curds were our favorites. Definitely would go back. Prices were very reasonable and menu had lots of selection.

Quality food can be hard to come by these days where the restaurant industry is now focused on the customer perception through intense branding and stylish ambience. Well, Hard Stones Grill has a different belief! Our vision at Hard Stones Grill is not to

Taking a day trip with friends to Merrickville, Ontario, we arrived at and left too early for supper. I had researched restaurants in the larger area, and had come upon Salamanders in Kemptville (about half an hour away) as highly recommended. We took a few detours en route, and arrived at Salamanders just about supper time. I could not recommend it for those who are fully disabled as it is at a lower (i.e. basement) level in the building. I have walking problems, but with stair rails, not a problem. At the foot of the stairs, there is a landing from which one may proceed out onto a large river-side patio or right into the restaurant. It being a coolish day, we opted to stay indoors. The dining room was clean and crisp with modern and comfortable furniture, and we were seated at a table. Our hostess/server was friendly, and we at once received menus and got water with lemon. Deciding on our food took awhile--there were so many great choices. Our friends ordered fish and chips, my spouse decided on a steak sandwich, and I chose the taco salad with steak. The biggest deficiency was that the fish and chips were just that--cole slaw, a traditional accompaniment, was extra cost (not good considering the wee bit that arrived!). About 20 minutes later, our food was served. My taco salad was in a good-sized shell (very tasty!), filled with the traditional lettuce, tomatoes, etc., with a nice sized piece of steak (perfectly grilled to medium rare!) atop it, accompanied by sides of sour cream and salsa. Sadly, there was no need for either, for the usual "bite" of Mexican spices was conspicuously absent! My spouse had an equally well portioned medium rare steak on a bun smothered in cheese, mushrooms, and onions, paired with a large Caesar salad. Our friends' fish and chips were, if anything, larger than one usually receives elsewhere, and both fish and chips were pronounced excellent. My taco salad at $18 was the most expensive meal (note: the menu prices on TripAdvisor are out of date). All in all, an enjoyable experience, although the couple of changes observed here would make eaters' experiences more enjoyable!
