Went for a late lunch/early dinner on a weekend. Didn't expect to see such a long line waiting! We were seated relatively quickly though and the service was very good. Staff were very friendly, food came out quickly. Wasn't as hot as it could have been, but was tasty. Enjoyed coming here.

Recommended by the Holiday Inn staff, a short cab ride landed us here. Guiness was overpriced but with endlessly good service, price was soon forgotten. Hot chicken salad was good and the breakfast burger was very good. Great conversation with locals kind of place.
Top 10 American food in Gastonia, North Carolina, United States

We had heard the food is good. Unfortunately, weâll never know for ourselves. Well, we are self proclaimed wine snobs so we do enjoy a nice glass of vino before and with our meal. When we arrived, we decided to sit at the bar and peruse the menu and wine selection; we never made it past the wine list. 5 minutes later when someone finally offered to help us, we enquired about ordering a bottle. We were told they donât sell by the bottle. The glasses were oddly priced. $11.70 a glass and so forth. They do however have both types of wine, red and white. ;)We were out at that point. What can I say? Weâre wine drinkers, not beer drinkers. So, thatâs my point of view. Hopefully the wine selection and offering will improve.

Our menu is filled with classic American dishes like steak, salmon, burgers, sandwiches and salads, as well as other traditional favorites like slow-roasted prime rib and our famous chicken tenders, all at a great value.
We arrived on Saturday at 11 45 and were not seated until 12 20 even though the restaurant was fairly empty. Drinks came quickly but food slowly. My son tipped over my tea and wait staff stepped around it rather than trying to help. I ended up having to go to the wait station to ask for a rag. The fish tacos were good, but the Mac & cheese for the kids meals tasted funny. I asked for kids pizza with applesauce sides instead when we finally got the attention of wait staff. It took so long to get it, we boxed it to go. Then I saw the bill charged for refills on tea (?!?) and $4.00 for two applesauce sides. I said that was too much and they actually took the go box back to take the applesauce out before adjusting the bill. I never knew exactly who our waitress was because 4 different people came to the table throughout a 2 hour span. When I told the manager on the way out that our experience was sub-par, she smiled and said goodbye.

The Hickory Tavern is the perfect place for a business lunch, after work happy hour, or to go watch any game! Bring the kids or just have a girl's night out. Whatever the occasion, the Hickory Tavern is always the perfect destination!
We came in for dinner and the manager and 3 hostesses were at the front. They explained they would have to clean a table. There was not a line Well, I guess nobody thought it was their job. Someone cleared the table. Someone else wiped it, no one set it and we watched and waited and waited until we went to the hostess area with puzzled faces. They looked surprised to still see us. The sweet black hotels stepped up and apologized. She was at the door welcoming people when we arrived. Our waitress Cynthia was nice, but did not have it together at all. Perhaps she was new, not sure. We ordered drinks and a bottle of 1/2 price wine as advertised on the board when we walked in. We hadn't received our drinks and she came to take our order. She seemed have forgotten about the drinks. The beer came out one by one. She plopped the bottle of wine on the table without opening it or pouring it! We opened it ourselves. The manager came to our table 4 times and asked how every thing was. At the 3rd visit, he asked me if I had seen the sign about the half price wine. Yes, I did and he said the sign was wrong and up a day early. I said I wanted the 1/2 price as advertised and he said okay. We just couldn't put our finger on exactly what was going on between the waitress and the hostess stand. The black hostess was the only one who had it going on. When I was complimenting her on the way out, the manager came right up and asked if there was a problem. I said no, but she was a good employee. The food was excellent. We had a variety of 5 dishes and appetizers. All were very good. This restaurant has a big problem. Horrible compared to other Hickory Taverns. Big disappointment with all the weirdness.

We stopped here before my son had to go to work primarily because we had a coupon. It was good although I was hoping for much better. My only major criticism was the queso which had way way way too much unnecessary STUFF in it. Queso means cheese, not peppers and hot stuff. We got put at the door leading out to the patio so each time the door opened, I got a blast of hot air and blinding sun. It could have been much better.
