A country pub in the Peak District serving hearty meals with real ales, continental lagers and great wines in a setting bestowing a 18th century inn now with en-suite bedrooms.
The Lamb Inn lies on one of possible routes between Derby and the north. Our confidence in the place is such that we like to build into our trip a meal there if the time of day suits us. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. Whenever we do call in, it always pleases. The standard menu is broad and interesting, the prices reasonable, the quality of the cooking first class. And there is home made bread too. It is also comparatively peaceful, friendly, welcoming and relaxing: just the place to have a break under modern motoring conditions. I always come away pleased, and my most recent visit was like that too.

If you havenât been here for a while itâs definitely worth going. New owners have done a great job with the refurb. Most importantly the food is amazing with lots of choice. The staff were incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Definitely need to book as itâs very popular and they have to turn people away !

The place has been transformed inside and looks lovely, apart from the toilets, that haven't been done yet and are still poor. The young lady who served us was extremely pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and walnut cake. The sausage rolls looked amazing too!

Stopped off here a couple of times while out walking from Castleton. Friendly young chap behind the bar both times. Good selection of real ale on the bar. Shared a baked Camembert infused with rosemary and garlic, which came with plenty of bread, and it was divine!!!Hello.Thank you so much for such a great review. I really couldn't be happier to hear that you enjoyed our Camembert, and very impressed with your knowledge. Most people wouldn't have noticed the rosemary and garlic. You are most welcome to join us again at your earliest convenience. Thank you again. I hope to see you again soon.Rick

Super friendly pub, awesome staff and a really wonderful atmosphere. The inside of the pub is both cosy and spacious, and outside area looked super cute with the fairy lights too. What really made this place memorable though was the staff - helpful, chatty, full of charm and personality, and particularly skilled in moth catching! Everyone was incredible with our dogs too, depsite one being a little unsettled and yappy at times.Wish we'd chosen to eat here too as the menu looked great and so did the food coming out of the kitchen. (We'd already eaten).Would highly recommend this gem.Hello.What a headline. Thank you so much.I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to our little pub, and hope you can call in again some day. Thanks again.Rick (chief moth catcher)

Execellanet ales with knowledgeable friendly service. Food, basic honest reasonable pub grub. Reasonable value, would have been exceptional value had we not pointed out that we had been undercharged to a very lovely & grateful yound lady at the till. Bizarely, only two of us, but were asked to move to a smaller table, despite there being only one other couple in the dining room, & shortly after, the only ones.

Stopped here for something to eat, en route to Edale. They had a nifty "mini lunch" menu where you got two or three courses for £11 or £13 respectively .. portions come large in the Peak District so that suited me just fine and two courses was more than enough .. excellent food too. The pub is characterful and I recommend it

The best pints of real ale in Castleton! Great selection of ale and very well kept! Good gin selection too. The food menu had lots of choice and they have a sausage and mash pick ânâ mix too - choose your type of sausages eg pork and apple, vegetarian etc, then your mash eg cheesy, mustard etc then your gravy or sauce eg onion, peppercorn etc. you can also have it in a large Yorkshire pud! And we got homemade onion rings. The other half had steak and said it was beautiful and cooked perfectly! Really good food and even better ale! Visited several times during our stay.

Four of us spent 2 nights here as the base for walking in the area. It was good value, friendly and the food was appropriate to the purpose of the venue - to provide hearty food for walkers. Itâs not luxurious- but not intended to be - but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was sourced from local products and was well worth it. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Itâs very close to station and to the start of some of the best walks. Strongly recommended.
