I've eaten here twice, and both times I was pretty satisfied. Being a foreigner to Cuenca, I find it difficult to adjust to the fact that so many restaurants and establishments are closed on weekends, so my coming to Meson Jose was by necessity since â thankfully â it was open on the weekends I wanted to eat out (first with my father, second time with my roommate). The food is delicious and relatively cheap considering the size of the serving. Both times, we were seated and served quickly, and I find that the atmosphere is quite pleasant despite how crowded the restaurant can get around 10pm.

We'd give this place a 5 for ambiance, but only 3 stars for food and 2-3 for service (inside anyway). It's worth going just to sit in such a large cave that's been turned into a bar/restaurant. Indoor seating is on 3 levels, with the restrooms in the 'basement'. Even though almost everyone else was sitting outside (most tables full), we chose to eat inside just for the novelty of it. We went back the next night, too, but just to have drinks because the food hadn't been all that great the night before (not much for vegetarians at all). Had bottles of the same type of wine both nights for under 7 Euros each. The music selection was upbeat/progressive: a mix of Spanish, American and other.

Found this place due to tripadvisor recommendations otherwise we'd never have found it hidden up a back street. It's small, cramped even, with wall to wall photos of customers, and very Spanish. Two free tapas with every drink (even a small beer). They boast 155 different recipes and we had several....lamb rib/potato stew, soup, bacon, quails eggs, croquettes, salads, toasty things with tomato/pimiento topping and many more (but not the lambs intestines!). Totally stuffed. And the total bill for two? â¬21....just the drinks.A bargain as the food was top quality and freshly cooked, served by friendly staff who were interested in your opinions on each course.Definitely worth a visit if visiting Cuenca.

Potato omelette very juicy. Highly recommended Zarajos. And now I write some other words to complete 100.

Good value menu del dia and good service. Portions are very big especially, the starters. Quite popular at lunch time.
