Find out what Bar restaurants to try in Castro Urdiales. Castro Urdiales is a seaport of northern Spain, in the autonomous community of Cantabria, situated on the Bay of Biscay. Castro Urdiales is a modern town, although its castle and the Gothic-style parish church of Santa María de la Asunción, date from the Middle Ages. Its chief industries are tourism, fishing, and the preservation of fish, especially sardines and anchovies, in oil. The "Lolin" and "La Castreña" anchovy canning factories serve as a reminder of the town's closeness to this industry and its proximity to the sea.

We are a small bar restaurant located in the old part of Castro Urdiales, you will find us in the center of the area. We serve traditional sea dishes such as battered cod, stuffed mussels, squid, Iberian and local products such as blood sausage, chorizo,
a small corner away from the center, where we offer a varied and homemade menu, in which the specialties are grilled mushroom and hamburgers. We put all our passion and dedication to our kitchen. we wait for you
We stopped in and looked at the menu.I speak / read pretty good Spanish. We ordered 3 âplatos combinadosâ and the Bacalao. We got 2 âplatosâ - 1 chicken breast and 1 hamburger - which were OK, 1 large serving of calamari with onion - no âcombinadoâ - and a plate containing 2 lumps of tasteless and slightly chewy cod smothered in a fast congealing pale orange sauce with a few small pieces of pepper encased in the gloop. It looked awful and tasted of nothing. The chef / proprietor asked us what we thought and we said the Bacalao wasnât good (my husband was quite happy to munch through a whole plate of calamari) ... the chef was not happy with us at al! He proceeded to tell at least 3 other (local) customers that we had complained about the fish. We were all aware of the conversation but just ignored it. Anyone looking at that plate of orange gloop and cod would probably have felt as we did, but maybe he had never been told before. We got through the meal and asked for the bill, my husband went up to the bar, asked for the bill (in Spanish), got an acknowledgement and was promptly ignored!! I then asked the barman for it again and was finally presented with an incoherent till receipt with words, random letters and numbers and a total at the bottom ... it took some decoding to check, and in all honesty I am not convinced we werenât over-charged, but we paid it and left. This was the last night of our stay in Castro-Urdiales and this meal was the only bad experience we had - but it ended our stay on a bit of a downer. There are many other small bar / restaurants in this town - my advice would be to give one of them a try and avoid this one.

Restaurant specializing in grilled food, meat, vegetables, fish. All this accompanied by the best views and attention by our waitresses. Enjoy the weather and our outdoor terrace.

The price of the combinados ranged from â¬9-11 and it was really tasty food. They also had beer and radler on tap. Definitely try the barbecoa and their delicious sauce. High in protein and carbs for a cheaper and tastier option than most pilgrim menus.

We took a day trip to Castro Uridiales in search for some seafood and a nice Spanish Sunday lunch. We were greeted by unfriendly, rude and unhelpful restaurants that despite having free tables refused to take us. So we were left wondering around until we found Amarras. The waitress tried her hardest to accommodate us and she understood we were tired, hungry and disappointed. She was extremely helpful, and swiftly set a table for us and we ordered from the daily menu. The food was average but still good, I wouldn't go back for the food, but I know they have a more extensive menu ordinarily which I assume is quite good. What really made the experience was the waitress and her friendly service. I dont think I would ever go back to Castro Uridiales, it reminds me of a cheap seaside resort, but it might be different in the high season summer months. If you find yourself here, do pop in to Amarras as you will for sure be welcomed with a smile not a frown like all the other places recommended her on trip advisor.
