Went for dinner on a Monday night. Lots of parking. Only ones there & had a lovely friendly greeting by the dark haired waitress. Bought us water & took our orders then we never saw her again! After ten minutes or more two young people came to the kitchen & started to cook our meals which took 40 minutes, again we were the only ones there & the bar only had one man in it. The cook bought our our meals. Had to ask for a steak knife for the steak & asked for one for the schnitzel. She forgot the 2nd one so had to get another. It was FILTHY. Waited to get another one but no one around so went to the kitchen, leant over & got my own. Asked for more water when the cook bought our meals but she said 'I'm not bar staff so can't get it'. Finally the other cook bought it out. Asked for more dressing as only a tiny bit on top of the salad, none throughout it.The chicken salad was delicious & very flavorful. The others were very budget really but tasty nonetheless. No one came to ask how our meals were, clear our plates or ask if we wanted dessert so we went to the till to pay. The cook said we pay at the kitchen so we stood there then she said oh I'll have to get someone so the young cook came & he took us to the bar to pay. Asked for a receipt but he had no idea how to do an itemized receipt so had to get the manager. She was a young, blonde girl & wow so so snooty. Hate to see them on a busy night!!!

We went to try the newly revamped Biddy Kate's for dinner and was highly impressed. What a wonderful atmosphere this place has as well as the most yummy meals and everyone should try the pizzas! The staff member was friendly and looked happy in his work. Prices are more than reasonable and can't wait for our next visit!

Went on a sunny warm evening with several friends. We sat outside in the very pleasant courtyard.having drinks , then ordered from the blackboard of bar food offerings. Quite a selection at reasonable prices. However it was a bit disappointing when it arrived........all rather deep fried and possibly from a large supplier.I had heard great things about the food but I was not impressed, maybe I ordered the wrong items? The setting is great.

The new menu is great with fab service and great assortment of local wines! We first tried it when It opened but pleased to report they have settled into the groove and provide an outstanding menu in a friendly environment which has a great vibe! Came in Friday night when it was heaving with locals then called back in for lunch on Sunday which had great music playing in the background with friendly staff. They have got this place all sorted and thoroughly recommend!

Good mix of pub and cafe dining - great atmosphere
Lively place with a good atmosphere. My wife and I both had beef fillet wrapped in bacon. Portions were good and although I had ordered a side of fries these were not really required.Good range of beers and good service.2 mains and 3 beers came in at about £50 which I thought was very good value.

We recently had a really nice meal at Speights...decent menu with good choices for everyone. Our food was spot on and well presented. One thing of note...there are great staff at the restaurant. My husband dropped his wallet and we didn't notice this until back at our motel and of course had no idea where this might have occurred. As we come from Australia, this caused a fair bit of angst sorting out stopping the credit cards etc. Just as all this had been done, our phone rang at the motel...it was a staff member from Speights, Haley (hope your name is spelt correctly) who had found the wallet and looked through to find a contact and was cluey enough to spot the NZ Sim card number on a piece of paper and was then able to call us. We picked up the totally intact wallet the next morning with MANY THANKS to Haley. We got the credit card working again and continued on our NZ trip without hassles, thanks to her. Good one !!

The Yard Bar offers good value meal deals on certain nights of the week. We went on a Wednesday evening when the offer was a burger with chips and beer(or wine/soft drink) for 20$. We had a little bit of a wait for the food, but when it came it was good. There is a sunny courtyard with outdoor seating, which unfortunately was full when we arrived. Thereâs plenty of indoor seating, but the downside is that the music there is a tad on the loud side. Waiting staff were all lovely and helpful.

Multi Award Winning Restaurant with Beer Garden in the " Ye Olde Malthouse " building from 1858. Brew Pub of Renaissance Brewing, Multi Award Winning New Zealand Brewery. Traditional German and Italian cuisine with Kiwi Classics. Come in & enjoy !
I went here based on the reviews I read and it did not disappoint. There is a lot to choose from on the standard menu and in addition to this they had a few specials to choose from. I went for the fish and chips, the portion sizes was very generous and I thought the fish was very good as well, this was one of the specials when I was there. They also have a very good selection of beers to choose from as well. I did also like how the bar was decorated, there were beer coasters from around the world on the walls and ceiling beams and I did enjoy seeing how many I recognised.
