So I live in DC, but have a son in DC and a brother in Alexandria. My brother, who knows All the best places to go in his adopted home town, took me to Volaâs, and since my first visit it has become a staple on my DC itinerary. I love it for lunch...sitting outside with oldies music playing. We start with oysters...one of each...and Sangria. For lunch, anything on the menu is great! The service is friendly and professional. Joyous...that is the best way to describe the experience! Thanks so much for the kind words, Lois! We're so happy to be a part of your DC itinerary, and to know that we bring some extra joy to your trips to see family. We'll look forward to your next visit!

We stopped here for lunch in the downstairs area. A little dark but still nice atmosphere. We were waited on quickly and food came right away. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our meal and would go back!

While in Washington DC, I really wanted to make a trip to Old Town Alexandria and stroll along King Street because I had read so many reviews about the fun area. We opted for Daniel O'connell's Irish Restaurant. I had the fish and chips because the reviews and waitress said they were a favorite. My husband had a steak and cheese sandwich. The fish was just OK. They were cod, which is pretty flavorless and greasy. I should have asked what kind of fish they used because I am a fan of halibut, but not cod. They were good, tons of greasy breading, which I took off to save calories. The fries are steak fries, which are also my least favorite fries. Husband said his sandwich was Ok, nothing to rave over. We sat outside and enjoyed the afternoon. Lisa, our waitress was awesome and very friendly and accomodating.

Absolutely loved the food here. I had the blackened fish sandwich. The best part of a sandwich for me is the bun, and it didnât disappoint. Great service. Friendly staff. Busy place, due to MLB playoffs that Washington Nationals are in. Perfect location to trolley and The Metro Very happy to hear that, Tim! Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Hoping this gets managements attention. I live here, been here for Sunday brunch many times, but what a time for them to screw it all up!I had family in town and bragged about the brunch. It took 30 mins to get our waiter to come over, it took another 45 mins to get food and it came out cold. We were informed it was a new computer system messing everything up. The most disappointing part? The owner/manager, or whoever he is, was just milling around doing nothing.I will not return. Plenty of other places that still do it right and show some care about their patrons.

No real complaints about Lena's ... the food is good; the atmosphere is good; the staff attentive but not over-bearing. The pizza "flavors" are a bit nouveau for my palate ... why screw with a classic like Diavalo by putting kale on it. And, Korean BBQ -- like pineapple -- should never be on a pizza.

We ate a great meal here for brunch. I am not a brunch fan usually but we had their french toast and it was great. The atmosphere and decor were fun and prices reasonable. However, we did have a very noisy large group near us that was a bit annoying. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed my brunch.

Stopped in for Happy Hour one night when we were visiting DC and staying in Alexandria. They have a fairly generous happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. We got the pepperoni pizza (which was excellent) and the wood fired meatballs, which was plenty of food for the two of us. They also have a decent draft beer selection which is discounted during happy hour too. Meatballs are served with slices of bread. Good, but would have been better had they been toasted. They have several seats at the bar as well as tables in the bar area and in the dining room. It's pleasant and comfortable. The service was very good. They have a bulletin board posted to the left of the bar which seemed oddly placed and sloppy to show their various licenses and permits. If they need to be displayed, why not put them behind some glass? The prices seem a little high (outside of happy hour) but given the location, it's pretty typical. Also, being right downtown parking can be difficult at times. The food is good and we would definitely visit again when we're back in Alexandria.

In October of 2007, chef and restaurateur Jamie Leeds opened her second Hankâs Oyster Bar in Alexandria, Virginia. Located in the heart of Old Town, patrons enjoy lightly fried items such as the popcorn shrimp and calamari, and our full belly Ipswich clam
Iâve lived here 14 years and never tried Hankâs. We finally decided to try Hankâs in old town. I made a reservation and requested a window seat. We were seated at a table (one table back from the window). The two window tables seat four and we were a 2. At least it seemed like they actually read my request unlike other places. We were served goldfish crackers. Then we ordered. I asked about the oysters but the waiter just pointed to a chalkboard down the hall. I didnât feel comfortable getting up to see what they had or standing in front of someoneâs table to read the choices. If he had at least mentioned a few, I would have tried them. Instead we got the basic shrimp cocktail. One of us had the Crab Benedict. The plate was mostly fries with a small crab cake on the side. The dish proportion was off. I had the lobster roll and it was very good. Growing up in New England, I appreciated the authentic bun and the amount of lobster. Service was spotty. The waiter was not personable. We may try another location to see if we can get better service. Weâll try to read the chalkboard before we sit down.
