After visiting the Salt Mines, my family and I walked along the river to expressly have a dinner at this restaurant. I have read the reviews and was looking forward to having a pleasant experience. Unfortunately we got caught in the rain on the way and even though we used our umbrellas, we got soaked. As we walked in, a skinny man at the bar totally ignored us. After a while I spoke up and politely asked if the kitchen was still opened, to which he shrugged his shoulders, said he did not speak English, and pointed to a table. At that moment I wished we could turn around and leave, but my grandson was hungry. We speak a little German, so we ordered 2 beers and a lemonade. We looked over the confusing menu, all in German, and then my grandson found a piece of folded paper on the table, which listed the daily specials and on it was Hungarian goulash and fruit dumplings. At that moment an angel walked in and kindly asked us in English what we would like to eat. We gave her our order and about 15 minutes later we could enjoy a nice hot goulash with a mountain of spaetzle and fruit dumplings, one filled with strawberries and one with apricot, we would have welcomed a third dumpling, as they were not big. The lady said she makes everything herself, so I presume she was the owner and I hope that the sour-faced man who did not greet us was only a staff member. His insulting attitude cost this restaurant 2 stars and we will never return.

After visiting the amazing Haus Der Berge museum, we went for lunch at the restaurant next door. The waitress was very welcoming & spoke good English. She was very helpful selecting something suitable for our gluten/dairy intolerant son. The menu is very interesting showing lots of other local businesses, delicacies etc. Most of us had soup which was lovely. The view from the balcony is fantastic & the inside very homely.

The service was really welcoming and the food exceptional! We had garlic cream soup, sausages, schnitzel and their famous desert. Loved everything! Absolutely recommend.

The strong point of this place is that it's located at a nice light hike up the gorge and there is no competition whatsoever. This monopoly is then visible here and there. I understand that because of the limited transport resources, the menu is more limited, but it should still be possible to put some more effort to the preparation and service to make the best of it. Also a plus: toilets, possibility to fill water bottles (at least after asking politely), and the surrounding landscape.

My husband and I have eaten in this hotel's restaurant about 10 times over the years and the food is yummy! The portions are large, service is good and the prices are reasonable and the food incredible.

We come here regularly to eat in the panoramic restaurant. The food is typically German, the wild deer goulash is excellent and in the asparagus season you cant have enough. The staff are also great fun and really welcoming.
