Nova Gorica (pronounced [ˈnɔ̀ːʋa ɡɔˈɾìːtsa] ( listen); population: 13,852 (town); 21,082 (incl. suburbs); 31,000 (municipality)) is a town and a municipality in western Slovenia, on the border with Italy. Nova Gorica is a planned town, built according to the principles of modernist architecture after 1947, when the Paris Peace Treaty established a new border between Yugoslavia and Italy, leaving nearby Gorizia outside the borders of Yugoslavia and thus cutting off the Soča Valley, the Vipava Valley, the Gorizia Hills and the northwestern Karst Plateau from their traditional regional urban centre. Since 1948, Nova Gorica has replaced Gorizia as the principal urban centre of the Goriška or Gorizia region, as the northern part of the Slovenian Littoral has been traditionally called.

This restaurant may technically be in Italy, but its menu has clear influences from nearby Austria and Slovenia. The interior is full of fun decorations and the staff wear Austrian dirndl outfits. Lovely atmosphere and good quality food. The free glass of Grappa at the end was a nice gesture.

We stopped to eat dinner on the way to Slovenia. The service was friendly, and the food was good but the portions were enormous and meant for sharing, so do not order a plate per diner as it will go to waste

A former cinema has been used for this franchise beer house and restaurant format with great results. Not only typical German style kitchen foods, very liked by locals, but a wide menu is served quick and well set up. Staff is present and careful. The most attractive element is in fact the location with its big brick arches and wide volumes that allow sounds and noises to remain under the level of disturbance.
