Things to do in Mauthausen
Our family-run restaurant Al Dente is located in the heart of Enns, only a few steps away from the historic old town and the famous Enns bike path.

I ate at this restaurant twice already after some time, and each time the dishes were good and plentiful. If the weather is good I recommend the outdoor veranda that because inside it feels very warm. The friendly staff and quick ready to meet any need. The dishes are typical of the Austria. Excellent meat and generous salads. Also excellent Kaiserschmarrn.
Nice place in Enns ... I was having dinner in the beer garden ... a little bit chilly but still ok.I reviewed the menu and found a "pan" with potatoes, dumplings, roast slices from the day before ... all chopped in little pieces ... fried in a pan and on top a fried egg ... OK ... pan looks small ... but I didn't consider the depth ... so it was a lot ... I saved the space in my stomach for a dessert ... so no starter ... I got a glass with some raspberry sauce ... a layer of cake with poppy seed and a lot of whipped cream ... The place a a kind of traditional modern style ... the team wears traditional pants and shirts ... so you can recognize that you are in Austria ... I fully recommend that place for dinner ... but should be also suitable for lunch.

Lovely location on the square. Really helpful staff. Regional food that was very tasty. I had noodles with a kind of beefy broth and soft beef.

We were driving through Mauthausen at noon and stopped at Muhlviertlerhof for lunch. There were several people sitting outside but we got a table inside. The menu was in several languages. The female server was speaking German but she was very nice and helped us order. I had a nice snack plate with cold cuts, cheese and salad and my wife had a large salad. The food was good and the location of the restaurant on the river was scenic.

Friendly staff, our waiter assisted with the menu, as it was in german and we could not understand it very well. My wife had the fish dish, I had a Hawaiian Wiener schnitzel which was to die for. Very nice indeed. The only issue was they did not accept our Master card debit card. So had to pay cash, which caused me to have to go to the bank later in the day to pay the hotel, which also did not accept cards.

We ate at Weindlhof in July 2011. We found the place by chance, as we were looking for a restaurant for lunch. We simply followed some signs in the village of Mauthausen. And we were not disappointed by our choice... What a nice place this is..! We had lunch on the terrace, overlooking the Donau river. The chef only works with fresh, local products, simply and beautifully cooked in order to preserve their inner quality. The lamb was absolutely delicious and so tender. The dessert was brilliantly executed and it was worth waiting! (see picture). We have been quite impressed with the excellent quality-price ratio of this amazing, gastronomic restaurant. We strongly recommend it.

From the absolutely beautiful setting and charming construction and decor to the superb customer service and gourmet local cuisine, this restaurant is the complete package. We normally don't dine at places like this because we tend to travel on a tight budget, but we stopped in at around 10 am just to inquire as to whether we could leave our car parked in their huge gravel parking area under the trees while we visited the Mauthausen Memorial just up the road. We had our dog with us and though it was a cool morning, we preferred to leave her in the shade. Though the restaurant wasn't open yet, the doors were wide open so I entered. A server who didn't speak English went to find someone who did. I believe the gentleman she found was the owner or co-owner. He was very friendly and said of course it was ok. We returned at 11 am when they opened and dined at the restaurant, mostly to "thank them" for letting us park there. As it turned out, it was superb! The same gentleman who told us we could park there came over to our table and went through the menu, item by item, explaining each dish. It was written in German and we had no idea what any of the items even were. We ended up ordering coffee, which was excellent, and two desserts: the topfen heidelbeerstrudel mit vanillesoÃe (blueberry swirrel with cheese curd custard) and the erdbeerroulade, a soft cake with strawberries and rich whipped cream. Ooo la la, they were good, especially the erdbeerroulade! Another server helped us as well, and she was equally friendly and spoke English. When I paid inside, the gentleman behind the bar was also very friendly and was quite gracious when I asked if it was customary to tip servers in Austria (I had no idea! It is customary). The entire time we dined, which was quite some time while we enjoyed the peaceful setting and warm breezes, our dog slept in the sun near us. On top of everything else, they're dog friendly. We would definitely return to dine there!
