Lunch was excellent as was the service. White varieties were excellent and reds very good. We are used to heavier 'bigger' reds in style so we found the red varietals a bit light. Notwithstanding the Reds specifically the premium Cab Sauvignon was excellent.Like many wineries they overlook the benefits of serving wine in larger glasses to allow the taster to really appreciate the product and for the wine to show its quality.

In the restaurant world I have been always complemented on the Cullen wines so when I finally get to Margaret River it was a matter of squeezing this In amongst the other âto doâ notes. Not ideal stopping on the fly, this 2 hat restaurant respectfully needs more time but we had a great meal from this small menu offering. The service was the friendly, professional and attentive, the menu style oozed the classic French with house grown produce. The slow cooked beef was tender and seasoned well, the pulled rabbit (rilettes) was warmed in the jar, which was a great match for the Kevin James Chardonnay Highly recommend this over Vasse Felix as a complete dining option.

What a delicious lunch and wonderful afternoon yesterday at Hay Shed Hill Wines. It was a late lunch but nevertheless the staff was very understanding and competent. Our Argentinian waitress was the best waitress ever, very professional and entertaining at the time. Very good cuisine and wine . We loved it.Highly recommended

Rustico at Hay Shed Hill is the second venue to represent the Rustico Tapas brand made famous from its Rockingham Beach venue.
Location is fantastic. Nestled right in the middle of the hay shed hill vineyard. When it is a sunny day, it is especially special. Food was a interesting. Fried goats cheese with orange blossom syrup, carpaccio and pork belly. All three dishes were fantastic! All well paired and well seasoned and well cooked The last dish, the whole trout, was a little disappointing. It was bitter, probably because of the Lemon slices wedged in the stomach of the fish. It is common for citrus rind to be a little bitter, but this just overpowered the fish which is a shame. Service was interesting as well. It was rather odd and I must admit downgraded the experience itself. The waitress who took our order, perhaps forgot our wine? Partner ordered a glass of wine and after waiting for quite a while decided to remind her. She came back to confirm what wine we ordered and noting that we ordered a bottle. Which of course we corrected. Then after she produced the glass of wine, she plonked down another bottle of sparkling water, we ordered one bottle, not two. When I confirmed that I didnât order two bottles, she said, oh thatâs free for you and dissappeared. (Later I realised that sparkling water was charged at bottomless rate and not per bottle) The intrigue continues. The 3 dishes I mentioned earlier came at a very reasonable pace. Then it just stopped. Our last dish, the fish felt like it was forgotten. This is when the same waitress came to clear our plates away and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. When I mentioned that we are still waiting for one more dish. She left the plates and went away. She walked past our table a few times and said nothing. I decided to ask if our fish was coming. She then said, oh yes itâs coming for sure. Itâs very fresh and was delivered this morning and itâs taking this long because the kitchen has to clean, gut and descale it and then went away. I am not fish expert, but I didnât think trout had scales? May just be me, but i just found it odd. Then the fish came and maybe because of the weirdness, it tasted just that little bit more bitter. After that experience, we ainât ordering dessert for sure. Now we are off to pay for the bill. Another interesting interaction. I literally never check the bill, but today, I felt the need to. Lucky I did, because on the bill was a glass of wine we never ordered. We waited for the manager to remove the rogue glass of wine feeling like he was doing us a favour. The lady organising the bill asked how was our lunch and I provided the feedback about our rather interesting service but lovely food. She seemed to know that there was something amiss with the waitress who served us. She tried to smooth things over with some complimentary cheese which we declined and received a 10% discount instead, which I was not expecting. Itâs unfortunate that what we would remember from lunch is not how lovely the location was or how tasty the food were but the intriguing serviceHi 'Foodgloriousfood88', thank you for taking the time to write your review on your experience with us here at Rustico. Although I have contacted you privately to discuss some of the issues of the day I felt it was appropriate to mention on the public forum also that the issues that bobbed up on the day have been discussed at length from a management perspective. Obviously we have highlighted an inability to meet the service standards we expect from our team and that issue has been rectified. Although you were visiting our region our offer stands to let us know when you return so we can show you the kind of service that the other reviewers on Trip Advisor have received and hence the reason we are rated so highly. We wish you many happy dining experiences in the future, and hopefully with us one day!

Nice quality fresh trendy food sourced localy.Wanted a "big breakfast" that was not readily available but could effectively put it together with eggs on toast and adding options. What we got was good in a relaxed environment.Juice of the Day is a nice fresh option, but not cheap.

We stopped for lunch at the charming shop and restaurant part of the estate and enjoyed a wonderful meal of freshly baked bread and dukkah with that liquid gold followed by chargrilled octopus and crumbed whiting, both fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The shop offered a mouthwatering array of cakes (highlight was an olive oil orange cake) as well as a range of olive oils, sauces and chutneys.

Wow it would be fair to say we were smashing out the big players, and after the previous lunch at Cullen which was an experience, Vasse Felix dining room nearly equaled another great visit.Service was attentive, the menu showcasing local provisions and a nice contemporary feel. The tweaks the kitchen team needs to consider is the lamb rump dish, where the protein was sous vide was actually chewy and probably needed to have its degree of water temp and/or cooking time adjusted. The ash of onion tainted the dip and a shame the scallops on the fish was made into a âblanketâ over the fish. But overall the menu was tasty and the entry down the driveway to the vineyard is something else!

We loved this place and return every time we come to Margaret River to eat, but this time not so impressed. What happened to the lovely well executed meals on the menu? Now we have an âany bodyâ can prepare menu -long lunch. We were really disappointed. These are the things we do at home when our friends come. Itâs not something I want to come to a beautiful winery to have. Sure... by all means have this on the menu as I know this is trendy, but give us REAL restaurant food options too. You lost us Brookwood we wonât be returning while this new wave menu is being served ever.Dear Ozchick5,Thanks for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. We are a small family business who put our heart and soul into everything we do, so when we read reviews like this we take it onboard and we try not to take it to heart, although to be honest itâs really hard not too. So hereâs the back story to our menu changes. We havenât offered this ânew waveâ menu to try and be on trend, we had to introduce it as the restaurant food that you had come enjoy at Brookwood was no longer a viable option for us to maintain. We are sorry that we have lost you as a customer, and that you were disappointed. Although our menu has been like this since January and we have had some great feedback thus far. We hope that you enjoyed our wines as after-all thatâs what we are a vineyard and winery that offers a relaxed menu to compliment our wines. If you have any feed back as to how we can improve our current offering please contact us by phone or email, we would love to hear from you. Much love the Brookwood family xo
