Things to do in Balnarring
I had written this review on Two Sams (the old name for Village People apparently) but will repeat it here as I added Village People to TA. This is a gem amidst some rough diamonds. We visit Balnarring a few times a year and usually hit town around lunchtime. Until now we have been disappointed with the fare and prices offered by the local cafes. We now have a definite go to - Village People delivered us a lovely brunch - we both ordered Turkish Rolls with eggs, bacon, lettuce, tomato and aioli. It was fabulous! Coffee was great along with the friendly service and we had money left over to enjoy the weekend!

Mid week dinner at this charming very old style hotel. Open fires, Chesterfield couches, varied rooms, reasonable wine list by the glass, good service. Old style country experience in this sophisticated winery district. Now the food! Very overcooked roast pork and vegetables. A great shame bit still an enjoyable experience.

Rare Hare Wine & Food Store, the home of Willow Creek Vineyard wines, is open 7 days for lunch and Fri/Sat for dinner. Rare Hare is a special sort of place, defined by aspect, soil, and toil. We invite you to savour the fruits of our labour, within view o
We booked dinner here based on all the positive reviews. We bought $150+ worth of share plates between the two of us. The standout dishes were Sardines on Toast with Preserved Lemon and an expensive little $8 wedge of Chive Waffle with Salmon Roe & Horseradish Cream. That is it. The menu online is a rough guide only and not current. Iâd seen some delicious looking dishes people had eaten in the days and weeks leading up to our visit but they werenât on the menu on the night. Unlike other diners we actually werenât wowed by the Salumi selection. The crispbreads on the plate werenât a good marriage either. Wafer thin and fragile, most crumbled in our hands when picked up. Meats were greasy and flavours werenât anything to write home about. Even the Mortadella which I was looking forward to. Despite booking well in advance and requesting to be seated at the end of one of their communal tables (we were prepared), we seemed to be placed wherever the waiter found space -in the middle of a very long table. I shared a small wooden bench for two with a lady Iâd never met before. Why canât couples be seated beside each other? My partner was opposite me and quite far away. I had unwanted coziness with the person next to me and my dining partner and I couldnât hear each other speak at all and resorted to sending text messages. Why? Because the dining room was like a Scout Hall for over 18âs. Noisy intoxicated diners galore. If you like shouting over your food then this is the place for you. Or find out when the restaurant is empty-ish and book then. Other dishes like the oily Barramundi wings (Iâve had much better in Geelong) lacked balance and were expensive for what was served. We dined at three wineries that weekend and we rated Rare Hare last of all three. The following night we ate a $15 Wood Fired pizza at an Italian restaurant and enjoyed that so much more than Rare Hareâs current menu and dining room. Our waitress on the night at Rare Hare was lovely and we couldnât fault the service (even though our Salumi plate came at the end of the meal & the kitchen is âdamage-controllinglyâ upfront about the unpredictable order your dishes will be served). As we paid our bill though, our waitress didnât ask how our dinner or experience was, instead she asked what we liked the most and what dish would we come back for (?!). We all smiled at each other, but it was saccharin. As a side note, Rare Hare should also invest in more toilets too considering how many bums they put on benches. Our favourite dining experience was at Cups Estate so book there if you can. Brilliant food that surprisingly costs less.Hi Sam, Thank you for coming to dine with us and for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the sardines on toast, chives waffles and the amazing service you received. We do appreciate constructive feedback and your comments regarding seating will certainly be taken on board. We are disappointed to hear your thoughts on the food, as you have mentioned we do generally get rave reviews. We hope to welcome you back soon.Best Regards, Ollie TuckerFood and Beverage Director Jackalope Hotels

It was a horrible Saturday afternoon and we decided to visit Lazaars for one of there delicious tasting plates. It was warm and cozy inside, the wine very good and the tasting plate brilliant. So much flavour, so fresh and so big... We enjoyed the entire platter and bottle of wine. The tasting platter is a must as each item of food has its own distinct flavour and each piece is better than the last. We will be back

Maybe we were here on a quiet day, however the food did not live up to the reviews. OK food but not special. Service was friendly, but slow (we suspected the local got priority). we were not in a hurry, but were very hungry by the time the food arrived.

Authentic country charm with delicious food and welcoming staff this tin and timber shed is a destination not to be missed. The Merricks General Wine Store is a Peninsula icon established in 1924. Today it serves as the Cellar Door for Baillieu, Elgee Par
Friends casual lunch at the General store. On a cold wet and horrible day, ask to sit near the open fire!First start with a wine tasting session adjacent to the restaurant.Great local drops covering all varieties. Pick a nice bottle or two to have with lunch.6 of us started with the sharing plate of anti pasta which was generous and delicious. We settled on the local Pinot noir to accompany lunch. All enjoyed the chicken pie and sadly Iâve forgotten the name of my lunch, (like a terrine style) but yummy!Atmosphere was great as the place was busy and full.Highly recommend a visit.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch for at Doot Doot Doot. Atmosphere was lush, spacious seating and nice ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed our 5 course tasting menu. Added the oysters in for extra measure with the homemade Tabasco sauce - v-nice! We didnât have the paired wines, but had some well selected wines by the glass from the extensive wine list, which we really enjoyed. Lovely, inventive dishes, great flavours and textures and some tasty amuse bouches to top it off. In all - a lovely few hours of luxe dining - not cheap (around $440 for two - including shaved black truffle on our beef) but would definitely recommend if youâre looking for special occasion dining - or just great fare! Thanks to Rob and Jo as well for special attention.Dear Cath,Thank you so much for coming to dine with us and taking the time to write such a wonderful review. We are thrilled you enjoyed the whole experience at Doot Doot Doot and got to take advantage of the amazing truffle addition. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!Best Regards, Ollie Tucker, Food and Beverage DirectorJackalope Hotels
Relaxed and welcoming cafe. Outstanding fish, chips and burgers made with fresh ingredients and love. The best on the Mornington Peninsula
The fish tacos are delicious with fresh coriander and just a hint of chilli. The focaccia was generous and served with fresh chips. I love the variety of different burgers using baker boys bread. All the cakes are made by Katherine and are yummy. The new renovations with the 14 seat communal table is fantastic. The staff are friendly and efficient. It is great for takeaways, causal family get togethers or meeting friends for coffee.

Popped in for a coffee on our way home. Just had coffee and smoothie. Food looked nice but very overpriced. I guess thatâs a location thing. Coffee looked terrible and tasted just as bad. Smoothies were average too for the price. Glad itâs not my local.

Barn & co, a casual and charming restaurant set in a barn set on a stunning winery. We celebrate everything Mornington Peninsula, from our welcoming staff to our use of local, seasonal produce and drinks list to match. The team at Barn and co look forward
Having your birthday in January and living on the Mornington Peninsula means you get loads of fabulous options to sit in the warm sunshine with whoever you choose and really lap up the love. This year we chose Barn & Co, a lovely rustic style winery and restaurant with great pizza and tapas plates as well as lovely, lovely wines all to be savored outside under the alfresco overlooking the gardens. This is a great place for upmarket but relaxed leisure. I thoroughly enjoyed turning 56!!!
