Things to do in Ayr
Arriving by car in Ayr, Queensland, on a Tuesday we found only a couple of dining options operating and after checking the menus in the afternoon, decided the newly re-opened, air conditioned Dining Room at the Ayr Hotel, would be the venue for our evening meal.Expectations were not high but we were very pleasantly surprised both by the renovated Dining Room, crisp linen table cloths and folded fabric napkins and comfortable furnishings. The food was even better. One meal of fresh Coral Trout was served with a separate Whisky and Prawn cream sauce, which was superbly flavoured with whole Bay Prawns lurking in the lovely sauce. The Second meal was a tender Prime Rib Fillet, cooked medium, as ordered. Both meals were served with fresh hand cut vegetables and chips, a welcome change to the frozen varieties encountered in other establishments in this price range ($20-$30). Wine and drink service was timely and served with a smile. The owner visited our table to check that everything was to our liking and we found out that the Ayr Hotel is currently being revitalised back to it's former glory, after being leased for many years as a Backpackers. As far as the Dining Room goes this has been achieved, with old world charm and fine standard of food.Highly recommended to other travellers.

We had morning tea here, coffee and a snack, nice place, good staff and good price. Would come back again.

A pleasant venue with a good selection of food on offer, at reasonable prices. The queues can be a bit slow, especially when it's seniors day, and the 'only one trip to the salad bar' rule is ridiculous, but the food is usually pretty nice and the variety helps make up for some of the negative. Parking is usually difficult, but there's lots of room on the street.
A Hotel and pub built in 1913 and recently reopened by the Hunter Family, who run the kitchen, bistro, bar and offer upstairs accommodation. re-opened Dec 3rd 2015!
We randomly stopped by this little gem of a pub on the way through. So glad we did! The pizza's are delicious and VERY well priced. The staff are super lovely and the location is perfect for a quick drop in bite to eat.

Had a lunch break here and service was pleasant and food was good size.Liked the outdoor eating area on the verandah Honestly have certainly had better coffee, sorry it was rather burnt tasting but that could have just been a bad day. Worth stopping though due to quiet location and view

Found in Ayr, about a one hour drive south of Townsville is Swae and Ivy, a tapas bar and restaurant that's suitable for the whole family. Open Wednesday to Saturday here you can treat yourself to a selection of small plates or go all out with a main. Fro
The missus and I went and celebrated a friends birthday Sunday afternoon and it was fantastic. The Ribs were to die for, service was great, meals were well priced and the drinks were cold and plentiful!! Highly recommend (ps thongs and casual attire is more than welcome).

Driving through Ayr we had to come have a look at the Deli and also try their sandwiches as it was recommended to us. Definitely didnât disappoint. Bread was fresh and had an abundance of filling, Great friendly service, Newly stylish decorated. I would also recommend a stop over to all my family and friends driving through Ayr.

Omg what a well hidden little surprise! We left Townsville early in the morning as we found nothing opened, so to be quietly surprised in AYR we were actually looking for Coffee Club to be honest. When you see a very busy cafe with lots of people you know it must be good! Healthy Options with great coffee and ambience and happy presence. Friendly staff and crew! Well done AYR!Hi victorian739,Thanks for your review! :)
