It was lunchtime and we just returned from a tiring long train trip to Tsuyama and at Okayama sta looking for the best bite. Saw Ta Kumi and quickly settled in, no queue!. The helpful server showed us the English-version of Menu, knowing we are tourists. Thanks! We ordered a ramen and a tonkasu. Both set of warm food arrives within 10 mins. Guess what they tasted very well though the portion not too generous. They cost the affordable 740 and 810 Yen only.In the end I returned an empty bowl, the broth was so good that I drink them all. (later that I read they serve high quality ramen with unique broth of pork plus bonito, no wonder so tasty!!!).The meal provides all the energy and good-feel that we were recharged for a trip to nearby Kurashiki Bikan Quarter afterwhich. After having such a wonderful meal I decided to post an article and only then did I realise it is a highly-rated eatery!!! Highly recommended.

We loved the food and atmosphere of this small place that we went back two nights in a row. The owner is just a delight, so welcoming and friendly, and she's a terrific cook, as are her assistants. She definitely serves the most delicious okonomiyaki that we have had in our travels through Japan. Highly recommended!

It might be a quick snack for locals, but we always find an okonomiyaki experience great fun. We came here twice, first for sobayaki with seafood, then for okonomiyaki seafood. Only a few words of English spoken, but we successfully organised mixed seafood instead of meat fillings. Would like to have had a stab at some of the other teppan offerings, but we don't eat meat and weren't confident. Friendly service, with quick turnover. Unbelievable cheap, too!

Ippudo, our ramen restaurant, was first established in 1985 in Hakata, Fukuoka. Currently in 2017, we have over 100 stores throughout Japan. In 1990, our founder, Shigemi Kawahara, entered the Hall of Fame for winning the the ramen competition of the show
My partner and I had the gyoza, the siromaru special (basic pork broth, with extras: seaweed, bean sprouts, extra pork, an egg), and the akamaru special (the same, but slightly spicy). It all went in several minutes of silence. Pure oishi ("tasty").It's cheap, too! (Note: they have a menu in English)

While it's called 'soba', the noodles they serve here is actually ramen. The Hishio Soba broth is sweet, fragrant and robust. The chashu comes in moderately thick slices of pork belly, which tasted like soya-braised meat. I would prefer it to be leaner though. I ordered the Hishio Soba with Shima rice set. The rice tasted different; I thought that the rice might be cooked with barley, please correct me if I'm wrong. We thought that kaedama, since it is free, will be just a small portion of plain noodles. Surprisingly, the kaedama comes as a single serving complete with small pieces of marinate pork and thin slices of seaweed on top. We enjoyed our meal very much.(If you are intending to visit Kurashiki - they also have an outlet there, note that the outlet at Kurashiki is smaller than at Okayama and only counter seats.)
