1. Aqua Green Village Anmon

Aqua Green Village is the starting point for hikes to Anmon Falls. It is a place to park your vehicle, grab a tasty and inexpensive lunch, and answer nature's call before and/or after taking to the trail.The facility also includes public baths, inexpensive overnight lodgings, and an awesome-looking set of hillside sliding boards for kids and kids-at-heart. Note: the hiking trail to Anmon Falls was temporarily closed (for construction?) during my visit in early June 2015. A short, nice-enough alternative trail into the beech forest was available. In the short term, however, you may wish to ask ahead if your heart is set on seeing Anmon Falls.

This little restaurant was quite hard to find, and we ended up asking someone Japanese who had Google maps. But worth the hunt. We were the only non-locals in at the time we visited. Very limited menu, not written down. The matron speaks english and was really charming, as was her son. You can sit at chairs or on the floor and are served with either green tea or water and noodles and tempura. Very good, fresh food. We paid 2000 yen for two of us. Lovely little gem.
