Things to do in Myitkyina
The Social Villa is a fast growing restaurant & bar in Myitkyina. It is unique in the area because of its foods, services, atmosphere and entertainment.
I went to this restaurant twice because of their decent and diverse food (Kachin, Thai, Chinese, Western). Their food is quite delicious (but forget about the Western options) and the portions are huge, yet their prices are very reasonable even for Kachin standards. As mentioned previously, the restaurant is largely frequented by NGO and UN workers, government officials and business people. Live entertainment starts from 8 pm, the girls cannnot sing though, however, they are not really there for the singing anyway...The service is so so, English is definitly not their strength so it can take a while until your order has been well understood.
Although the service is slow and some of the food is too salty, overall Green Bird is one of the best places to eat in Myitkyina with a big menu of traditional Kachin dishes.

the food is Western, Thai, Indian and Myanmar, the quality is high and the prices are low, there is an outdoor patio garden for smokers and tokers, an indoor area for monsoon munchies, there are fabulous fruit shakes, they let guests to bring their own bottles of alcohol as they dont have a license to sell alcohol yet still makes it a fabulous place to eat drink and be merry to the wonderful trance music. I visit this restaurant often as it is one of the best and sometimes i dial and order and they deliver to any hotel in the city.
Find a table that gives you a view of the Iraawadi River. Best if its Sunset time and you have a camera!Traditional Kachin food is a lot about non-vegetarian food and as vegetarians our hosts did order for us fried corn, roasted vegetable, mushroom, rice, tea leaf salad.....wow!If you have the stomach for new try the traditional Rice Beer...it was strong and its healthy, something that is fermented using a combination of herbs......A must go place if you are in Myitkyina.
There are huge wooden curving using whole tree and roots. The whole table and chairs are fixed curving in set. Kachin fish grill and sappa (vegetable mix) together with sappi (kachin wine) were well matched. Deer, pork belly and small fish dishes were differently delicious. Being on bank of Ayeyarwaddy river, the picteresque view can be odservec during meal.A place to must try.

Riverside eatery
Kiss Me is a good-valued restaurant with a relaxed setting, with nice view over the Irrawaddy river. Food choices are plentiful and service fast. They have really good coffee and ice cream, to our surprise. I went back a few times during my short stay in Myitkyina just for the ice cream! They are homemade and really tasty.Should drop by if you are visiting Myitkyina.
