We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here - on multiple days. It is a simple restaurant overlooking the lagoon. The service was excellent and the food was perfect every time. The sashimi is fabulous. Excellent value for the price. Very clean. Friendly service. It is a peaceful place to enjoy a meal and soak in the beauty of Pohnpei.
This is a little Korean restaurant that has an all-you-can-eat Korean buffet for $9 for lunch and then regular dinner and takeouts at night. I have not yer tried the buffet, but I was there last night around 7.30 p.m. and I was the only customer. Since I was waiting for a friend, I got to see the non-stop Korean teenage music videos, which were very entertaining. Except for the eyes, these girls were more like young girls from any Western country. I had Korean beer, which was rather light and costing $2.75. For dinner I had chicken breast marinated in a mildly spicy sauce with white rice and Kimchee. A soup came with it too. The food was not bad. The menu had quite a variety. If you go to their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/GANGNAMSTRESTO ,you can see the dishes in color. It was a very peaceful dinner even with the nonstop girly videos. The service was very good and friendly. I will surely go there for the buffet.
Local restaurant in Kolonia, Pohnpei.
We went there during lunch and we had an Asian fusion-type, all-you-can eat-buffet for $8. It was not bad, but I had anticipated I could get curry in this restaurant. Since they were still putting the dishes out when we walked in around 11.30 a.m., the first dishes out were the regular carbohydrate laden food such as aramen noodles and deep fried dishes. I asked for curries and one young lady said it was next door that served curries. I thought it was the same place with a second name Curry restaurant. I will have to come again to find out.It is a spacious restaurant, somewhat hidden from the view in a wet green area. There were around 10 dishes on buffet and then sashimi, which was not in great supply. A hot soup was brought to the table by the waitress while we were eating. The price was very fair for the amount of food and the atmosphere was not bad either. I will have to go there again to find out about the curry connection.
KD makes good use of a wide variety of foods available in Pohnpei, including local food, which unfortunately not many restaurants in Pohnpei do. It's mostly Filipino dishes set out in a reasonably priced lunch buffet which includes iced tea that usually has the place packed (mostly with health professionals, since it's right down the street from the State Hospital, right past the Elementary School in Nett). They are also my favorite choice for catering on-island--large portions at great prices! It's a buffet, so don't expect much with service other than getting your glass of iced tea and the atmosphere isn't spectacular, but it's clean and a local favorite for a quick bite at a reasonable price. Get there early (11:30 to 12pm) if you want good parking!

I characterize this as "Japanese/French Fusion" cooking. Very good, homemade Ramen noodles for dinner, wonderful crepes for dessert, lovely view, and expected warm and friendly Micronesian atmosphere. Ate there three times in one week, and really sorry schedule did not permit breakfasts. I was tempted on the last day to eat nothing but desserts.

Relatively small and crowded at meal times, the Joy Hotel restaurant offers a mixture of western and Japanese dishes that are consistently good and served quickly. The menu is limited but there are a variety of selections and all that I have tried have been well prepared. As the menu is both in Japanese and English it is obvious that there is particular attention given to Japanese dishes. Indeed, the Japanese dishes are well prepared and the sashimi is particularly fresh and tasty. But the western dishes are also well prepared and very good. Salads are a bit weak but that is probably mostly because it is difficult to get good, fresh vegetables suitable for western style salads. Omelettes are excellent and their pancakes are amazing. Only one to a serving but very thick and very good. There is probably more pancake in that serving than in the usual two or three served in typical American restaurants. No desserts except ice cream, though so it is not so great for those with a need to end a meal with cake or pie. Surprisingly no fruit plates either even though tropical fruits are generally available and good. Definitely recommended.
