Following a few beers with some friends I was introduced the the Spice Empire. With my friends being regulars and all saying how good the food was and how friendly the staff are, my expectations were high. Wow, I certainly wasn't disappointed. I settled for their mixed Kebab starter and Chicken Jalfrezi for my main. Both were served piping hot, full of flavour.Would I go back..... roll on next month!

We were staying at the local Travelodge and so this was a short walk away.An early evening visit for dinner, very friendly greeting and quickly seated at our table. There is an extensive, excellent menu and being connoisseurs of Indian cuisine we were spoilt for choice. Two courses were taken, we had no room for desserts because the cuisine was not only of exquisite quality but also of great quantity, added by some tasty extras. This was our favourite meal taken during our week's adventures throughout the North East region, fantastic experience, amazing cuisine, fabulous service and great value for money. The nightcap drink that was offered for free was a final nice touch to what was an amazing tribute to the very best of Indian cuisine, thank you to all concerned. Can any photo do justice...

A no frills little restaurant if you drove past you would see queues of people being served (and very quickly to). The food is authentic, the owner having spent many years out Far East with his Malaysian wife (I think). The food is delicious with a great choice, and not to expensive too. It is eat all you want for a set price, and believe me a couple of platefuls of different food will suffice anyone. There is plenty of room for parking on surrounding streets.

Situated in the Highfield Hotel, the Star of Siam is the longest established Thai restaurant in the Durham & the North East with over 20 years of serving Thai cuisine throughout the Tyne & Wear area. With this experience and working with some of the best
Have reviewed this place ages ago but, yesterday's visit was even more enjoyable. We were welcomed by cheerful waitress who, without being asked, kindly removed a chair so I could stay in my comfortable wheelchair, before bringing the lunch menus. We both chose a starter and main. Wife ordered a lemonade, I had my usual rhubarb-and-ginger gin, with plenty of ice and a chunk of lemon. As we approached, a young man held entrance door open; did likewise as we left. Food, service and atmosphere were all brilliant - this establishment is definitely on our 'must return to' list.
