Reviews on Asian food in Hakuba-mura, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Nestled in the Northern Japan Alps, Hakuba is all about the winter sports. A top ski and snowboarding destination, Hakuba has plenty of snow and nearly perfect powder. Spend the day swooshing down one of the areas 200+ trails, then end with an après ski at one of the area’s cozy pubs or cafes. Local mineral hot springs make great soaking spots for weary muscles.

Great steaming ramen which is fantastic on a cold day. But the highlight of our visit was the amazing gyoza. It takes 3 bites to finish one gyoza. Just amazing home-made goodness. The staff are friendly, hardworking and honest folk. We felt very welcome.

People say 'best... in....' on here all the time. But, I've actually had ALL the ramen in Hakuba. And this is head and shoulders above everyone else.Perfectly cooked egg with runny yolk, well-developed broth, flavourful char siu with a good char, perfectly paired noodles for the type of soup.Good service.Great price.

Visited here last night with family and friends and had a great experience. All the food was excellent however the highlight on our table was the avocado and raw tuna dish. The sashimi platter too was excellent.Be warned though as this place is hard to get into. You definitely need to book as not many tables.

Don't think about just walking up - well worth booking a couple of days in advance. Excellent gyoza and maybe, just maybe, the best ramen around. Good local sake options - should include on your list

This pub is very close to our accommodation on our 3 generational family ski trip.Although we had a booking the fact that children were in the party seemed to throw reception a bit. However, we were accommodated quickly, with higher chairs being provided for the children at the end of the table. We had a nice spot near a real wood fire burning away, which gives a cosy ambience.Service was a little haphazard. Dishes were forgotten and a bit difficult to get the waitresses' attention at times. A few menu items were "sold out" even though we were there at 6:30 which is opening time. However, the food is excellent and I don't think there was a thing left on any of the dishes (except a tiny amount of cabbage nobody seemed be able to fit in).We shared all the dishes - edamame, spicy chicken salad (it wasn't really), salmon teriyaki, spider rolls, tonkatsu, yakisoba, prawn tempura - and they were singularly fresh, hot and delicious. Hot sake, beers and red wine to accompany. Everything was excellent.Would have given an excellent rating overall but for the service.Highly recommended.

This is a very charming small restaurant in the Canada Village complex near Hakuba Goryu. The wagyu sukiyaki was excellent! The beef was cut thin for sukiyaki, but thick enough to maintain the tender and rich sensation of eating wagyu. In addition the sukiyaki dinner set was very reasonably priced. The staff members were friendly and the service was very good. All staff members made an effort to speak English. I would definitely go again.

They do not take reservations so either arrive before they start dinner service or be prepared to wait outside of the restaurant until a table becomes available (there is no room to wait inside). So worth the wait though! Itâs an izakaya so they offer a little bit of everything. Their sushi/sashimi was so good! Also loved the chicken karage! A couple of days later I had lunch there and didnât have to wait for a table. I had their meal set which included ohyokkori which is braised vegetables in a delicious broth with a side of a steamed bun filled with picked greens, cold soba with sauce, and picked veggies. It was delicious and filling. FYI - sushi/sashimi is not served during lunch.

Best meal I had in Hakuba! I ordered the chirashi bowl and devoured it! The sashimi was so fresh! Better than the sushi I had in the Tsukiji Outer Market in Tokyo. The menu is like a booklet. Very extensive and offers different menu sets. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Unlike most Japanese restaurants in Hakuba this family run restaurant was very spacious. You canât make a reservation, however you can walk in and then write your name on the notebook stating how many guests and you can wait indoors, which is a treat as most restaurants you have to wait outside. It offers Japanese and western seating. The prices are very reasonable and one of the cheapest we have been to, alongside the largest portions we have had. The food was authentic Japanese with great, and huge, soba/udon soups and other local dishes. I highly recommend the tempura vegetables. This is great for singles, couples, families and even large groups. Just remember to take along cash as they donât accept credit cards.

saw this soba shop by chance, got in by luck. turns out their booked out but they had a gap of 1hr and they just sit us in. much appreciated. we went ahead to order a wagyu tataki to start and then the soba set with the tempura followed by the milk pudding with soba sauce to end. first up, the wagyu tataki was impeccable. just done nicely around medium served with daikon and house sauce. the in house handmade buckwheat soba was really smooth and the soup base was really yummy. tempura consist of green pepper, brinjal and a shrimp which was delicious as well. overall a really satisfying meal. will visit again if i come back to hakuba!
