Just had a meal here. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and the food was beautiful. We had the Thursday set menu for £12.95. You won't be disappointed. And as an added bonus you get a good quality complimentary drink to finish. Thank you Zolsha, we'll be back

We're pretty spoilt for choice here in Howden, with two of the best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at in Zolsha and Jamil Spice. For me though, as incredible as Zolsha is, Jamil Spice beats it. The restaurant as many people have described is cosy, with maybe tables squeezed into a space no bigger than your average garden shed. Not that it feels overly cramped though, partly helped by the fact the only waiter is rarely in front of house but instead spends most of his time in the kitchen helping the other chef (I really do think there are just two employees in at any one time!). When he is out in front of house, he works incredibly hard to ensure everyone is happy and enjoying their meals. It's different, but it really does work. The food takes longer than in your average Indian restaurant, so I wouldn't recommend visiting here when very hungry. But provided you're happy to spend some time socialising while your food is cooked from fresh, then you'll soon be rewarded. The food is absolutely incredible. Honestly, I've never tried Indian food like it. It's well worth the wait and it will make you want to come back again and again, as we have done. It's BYOB, so I can highly recommend stopping off at Flourish and Prosper next door to grab a good bottle of wine or table beers to accompany your meal. If you let them know that you're eating in Jamil, the staff at Flourish and Prosper will help recommend excellent beverages to compliment the Indian.

Authentic Chinese Restaurant in the centre of Howden. We also provide a take-away service.
We have been going to this reatuarant for many years. There was an issue with the menu description of my meal which once I brought to the waitresses attention resulted in us being totally ignored.Clearly it has changed hands recently and although the food was good the service was appalling. They need to get new front of house staff quickly otherwise the new owners will fail. Please sort the staff and we will return - otherwise unfortunately after many years we will find somewhere else. The service spoilt a special night â¹ï¸

Came as part of a group of 7 because we couldn't get in anywhere else.My immediate impression was that the place felt like a rather cheap cafe.It was a Thursday and there was a deal available - any starter, main, rice or nan bread plus a soft drink for £8.95 ( fish dishes extra). The place does not have an alcohol licence so bring your own.I shared a mixed starter which was acceptable. The main was not the best I'd ever had but to be fair, not the worst either. Rice was fine but the nan was like cardboard and best avoided. Service was a trifle slow but not a deal breaker.I did not have a soft drink but a companion received a very small glass of cola.Overall, not the best experience but for less than £10 a head with tip I didn't feel cheated. I would go again but not by choice.
