Food is on the average. We had a bad experience when a waiter insisted that I ordered their 800 pesos crispy pata when I merely asked its price. View is good

Pension Ivatan restaurant was recommended by the locals when my friend and I asked them which restaurant to go and eat local cuisine. We tried the Vunes which is actually dried young gabi (taro) stalk chopped in fish, beef, pork, or fowl. The meal is a set served with Atchara and unlimited nido soup. I am a vegetarian still I tried this though I am aware it has ground pork and chopped fish, for the sake that I tried it before leaving the island. So their Vunes is like Laing in Bicol without the coconut milk. My verdict hmmm... it was bland I cannot really figure out if I am eating dry leaves or if it even has pork because I wasn't able to distinguish it taking into consideration that my taste buds are sensitive to pork, fish and any other animal derived food. The Atchara is good though, the unlimited soup however redeemed the restaurant. I am not quite sure if Vunes is really a good dish and this resto just failed to give justice to it but we didn't dare eat in another resto for Ivatan food anymore. The price is quite pricey though, its like eating in good restaurant in Metro Manila, nonetheless it was a good experience. If you want to try Ivatan food, I suggest yu explore other restaurants.I am giving this resto and AVERAGE grade for the service and ambiance, but food it is POOR.

we just got a flyer of this restaurant from the airport. reservation is advised. went there around 6pm and the food was served after a few minutes. they call it vunung. 2 packs of food wrapped using big kabaya leaves. 1 pack contains the turmeric rice, the other pack contains the viands. They also serve yummy salad! Coconut crub can also be ordered (depending on the availability)

We were supposed to stay in Basco only for four days but we got stranded because of the cancelled flights. Good thing that we discovered this place early enough during our stay because it served as the default eating place. We kept coming back. The place is simple but cozy, accessible from most hotels and homestays. They can accommodate big groups as well as couples. It's easy to find because practically everybody in town knows where it is when you ask for direction.Food is very good and priced reasonably. Service is okay but don't expect a 5-star experience. Our only regret is that during the many visits that we made, the priced dish (kinilaw) was not available.Visitors to the province should include this on the itinerary.
