Set amid the coastal Chugach Mountains, Anchorage defies popular visions of polar ice caps and frozen tundra. It’s also warmer than you think (averaging 65 degrees in summer), making conditions ideal for sight-seeing or taking on uniquely Alaskan opportunities like arctic biking or touring the fjords of Prince William Sound. In the winter, you can ski, dogsled or do both simultaneously by "skijoring," which is cross-country skiing while being towed by a dog. Hey, it's no crazier a winter sport than the biathlon.

100% recommend. Visited because they had advertised a âchefâs choiceâ this evening and ended up ordering a boat with some of the most fantastic, amazingly delicious sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. What made this special was that the chef built such creative and flavorful dishes with unbelievable sauces. If you are adventurous, highly recommend encouraging the chefs to deliver their creative genius. The chef included a dessert sashimi which was, um, amazing :)

I really love Charlie's and apparently lots of other people do, too. There is always a steady stream of people taking away food and the tables inside are always occupied. I you want lunch, try to get there around 11:30 and you should be able to find a table.I usually get the fried rice because it is so good and there is way too much of it. Most recently, I decided on the fried chicken wings. The wings were juicy and tender and came with a tangy dipping sauce. The fried rice is still my favorite but the wings were a nice change.

We only spent one day in Anchorage and it seemed a little difficult to find vegan food. My Thai was very accommodating to our requirement for a vegan meal. It's in a very convenient location. It was not crowded. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. We almost ate lunch and dinner there, but decided to get a little variety instead.

Love when a server remembers your âusualâ order! Thatâs the kind of place Thai is. Friendly, family-run business with a smile. AND delicious food! Itâs usually crowded, so be sure to wear a warm coat in the winter in case you need to wait a bit! We love their soups, apps, noodle and rice dishes. Sooo yummy.

Recommended by the downtown Visitors Bureau - excellent food, close to major downtown hotels. Ate there July 2011.
This is a very small family owned authentic Thai restaurant immediately across 5Th street from the Hotel Capitan Cook. Upon entering we were met by one of the owners, she presented us with comprehensive menu of Thai specials. We started with a complementary bowl of light soup, followed by Larb Gai ( chicken salad), shrimp curry! Everything was very good served with smile.

When we want a good, quick, inexpensive meal, pho is often our default. We actually planned to visit another pho restaurant, but it was closed. A quick map search led me to Pho Lena, and it did not disappoint! The place was full, generally a good sign, but it was still just a short wait to be seated, make our choices, and get our food. The pho was very flavorful, and the coffee and boba delicious. i recommend a visit to Pho Lena.

my only complaint would be they need some fruit options, but their rice bowls are GREAT!! Love the yams and spinach and pork and chicken - oh, heck, love them all. They bakery items are also varied and a nice sweet treat.

I'm no expert on the Anchorage sushi scene, but I've sampled enough over the decades to know the bar has steadily risen over the past several years. I was visiting the city recently only briefly and sought a new restaurant to try. Sushi would fill the bill, so I consulted Trip Advisor, of course. I happened to be a few blocks away, and within minutes I was parked in front of an unassuming strip mall-type building wondering what I would find inside.I was blown away by the massive interior, which features a really modern, Asian-themed design, a substantial bar, and many, many tables under jazzy ambience coming from the speakers. The dark wood, tiles, and fabric with lights focused on the tables give you the illusion of warmth and privacy. I found the atmosphere very welcoming, and even elegant, while staff attended to me quickly. I noted the other tables were mostly family and friends chatting, laughing, and generally enjoying themselves. I poked my head into one of the private rooms, which would be perfect for a celebration. The dishes that streamed out were beautifully presented. Edamame greets you at the table. Within five minutes I was ready to order. In addition to sushi, a number of other cuisines are available. Korean grilled ribs (kalbi), Hawaiian poke, and even a fusion Cajun Tuna Sashimi ($17) add more variety to your possibilities. The bento ($21) features teriyaki, tuna sushi, tempura, and California roll. I saw one, and it was overflowing with goodness. If flesh isnât your thing, veggie hand rolls come in several versions, with or without tofu. I was tempted by the chirashi, which is sashimi over rice and a mixed spicy poki ($20). (Poke is a âthingâ in Anchorage now.) Then I reminded myself Iâd come to compare sushi. I ordered the sushi lunch ($22) with seven ample pieces of sushi and a lovely California roll. The miso here is different than in 99.5% other US establishments I have had it. It tastes fresh and well-balanced for a smooth transition to the main event. The salad dressing on the crisp lettuce accompanying the miso had a very slight sweetness but otherwise no distinct flavors I could detect. My sushi lunch was gorgeously presented in about 15 minutes. The flavors were fresh, and even the plate seemed to glow as the colors just came together. The sight was so appetizing. I took my time and savored, though. I had plenty of time to observe the crowd and the waitstaff, who are attentive but not pushy. I could relax and catch up with my thoughts. The whole package just came together, and I had a wonderful lunch. As a solo diner just passing through, I was so frustrated to only scratch the menu once. A party with sharing would be the ideal experience. I will definitely return. I wish these folks well.

We had a group of five that was family and a friend. We all enjoyed a variety of Asian inspired dishes plus a variety of mixed drinks including some specialties of the day. There is a modern upscale feel to the decor and we overall had a good experience. We went there late for our dinner on a Friday so there was no wait. It was during the heatwave in July and it was a little too warm in there.
