Reviews on Argentinean food in Leiden, South Holland Province, The Netherlands. Home to the Netherlands’ oldest university and the birthplace of Rembrandt, Leiden also served as a several-year stop-off between England and the New World for America’s Pilgrim fathers in the early 17th century. Today, lovely Leiden boasts the second-largest Dutch city center after Amsterdam. The National Museum of Antiquities has an impressive collection of Egyptian artifacts. The Hortus Botanicus, established in 1590, was the site of the planting of Holland’s first tulip bulbs in 1593.

The El Fiero is a restaurant situated in an old street in the heart of Leiden city. It’s close to the train and bus station and very easy to get to. There is also a parking area near the restaurant. It’s completely decorated with Argentine décor. There are beautiful Argentine paintings everywhere like horses, dancing people on the street etc. It has lovely atmosphere with Argentine background music. The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had Argentinian fillet steak served with baked potato and salad. While my friend tried USA-style T-bone steak served with French fries and salad. It all was followed by a delicious fresh fruit cocktail with ice-cream, Cointreau and cream. All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a selection of the best wines. The service does accompany the high quality of the cooking. Very friendly people, always smiling and accurate. I had a pleasant dining experience with food and service. For this reason I highly recommend going to the El Fierro Argentine restaurant in Leiden.

Had a reservation there and the service was poor. When we arrived our table was still occupied , then quickly cleaned. The waiter put the glasses and knives on the booth and told us we could sit, so I said there is still stuff on the booth seating. He then moved it on top of the table. Anyway he walked away and it took another 15 minutes for him to come back with the menu and then ask if we wanted something to drink. This took another 15 minutes to arrive and he then took our order for what we wanted to eat. We still did not receive our drinks. When the bill finally came they charged us for 2 beer to much, tea we did not order and an extra platter. I got the difference of 27.50 back but I was disappointed in the service. It was not crowded so I do not what the reason was for this.
