My wife and I ate here on the way home to NC from a mini-vacation to Williamsburg, VA. Food is typical southern style with many things deep fried. Tasty although not necessary the most healthy. The setup could have been done a little better/cleaner. Overall okay experience. Will probably eat here again when passing through on I-95.

I've enjoyed breakfast at various Waffle House's before. Not this time. First, I came in to see warning signs on the floor with a liquid dripping from the ceiling. I probably should have turned around then. I was pointed to a table, sat, and waited... Finally a server with a scowl came and asked if I wanted something. Coffee. Five minutes later - coffee. Milk? Another few minutes - yep, milk/ or something and sweeter - order taken - still no smile. About that time my daughter - who has been a server, a manager, a - well never yet a chef - would have thrown the stuff on the table at the "server." But she took my order. Now the place was busy - but it seemed there were more staff than needed and behind the counter they had to be bumping into each other. Finally I got served - world famous hash browns burned on the bottom. Ask if I'd like a refill of coffee? Nope. How's the breakfast bowl? No question like it. Check slipped on table - no "Hope you enjoyed your meal.." There's another Waffle House the other side of the Interstate. If I come back, if I go to a Waffle House, it will be that one

in the Hilton Garden Inn at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, NC
Stayed at the Hilton Garden overnight, and didn't really feel like getting back out for dinner after a long day in the car. So we decided to chance it and try the hotel restaurant. Glad we did. Niot an ideal restaurant, which is basically in the lobby of the hotel. But the food was very good, as was the service. I had the California Club and my wife the Pesto Chicken flat bread. Both our meals were very good. The mac-n-cheese side is also very good. Decent selection of wines, at $6 per glass, which is nice to see for a change.....versus the usual $8-10/glass in most restaurants. If you happen to stay in this hotel, stay in and give it a try.

Stopped here 2years ago and was impressed then with shrimp but this year was surprised with very fishy tasting oysters. Hush puppies were only part of meal that was acceptable. Cole Slaw tasted four days old. Service was extremely slow but friendly. Will cross Mayflower off our spots to stop at on long trips.

This is one of those excellent hidden gems that's been around a long time. They are known for their hamburgers and hotdogs. They don't have a web site but here is excellent article about the owner and the restaurant.
I did a call in order and when I arrived, my food was ready and still very hot. Staff took care of me as soon as I arrived. This place has clean restrooms, excellent cooks and great management. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a good meal.

Stopped in here for dinner about 3 weeks ago. I had the Mesquite Grilled Chicken, with a side salad and fried mushrooms ($10.99 and $6.99 respectively). Very good flavor! My nephew had the Roadhouse Deluxe Burger and gobbled it up in a matter of seconds ($9.99)! My brother had the Combo Entrée (USDA Choice Sirloin Steak and Mesquite Grilled Shrimp - $17.99) - said it was very good. Only thing that was lacking, was that the service was a bit slow. Glasses were empty for quite a while before being topped off again. All in all - a very good meal though.

Since 1953, Oscars restaurant has been serving some of the finest southern cooking in all of North Carolina. Breakfast, Lunch , and Dinner, hand dipped ice cream , banana splits, and milkshakes, and some of the best desserts around ! Come see us!
My wife and I were driving home to Charleston SC from NY. We usually divvy the trip up over 2 days, stopping over about halfway through. We got a really early start to try and beat the NYC & DC traffic (we did!) so we pushed thru till we got to Roanoke Rapids NC. Based on Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to try Oscarâs, and we were very happy we did!First, the decor is straight out of the fifties, with Formica table tops, green padded stools, and best of all, guitars hanging on the wall autographed by famous artists whoâve stopped to play in the area. Second, the food is awesome and priced right. We both had the âsmotheredâ fried chicken and candied yams which were sensational. I had the collards, my wife had the beets. Both meals came with either a biscuit or hush puppies. So much great food, and with sales tax came out to less than 20 bucks! So if youâre in the area looking for authentic southern home cooking, look no further. For the price of fast food, you can get the real deal! And we sat under a guitar signed by Charlie Daniels. See my picture:

We had an amazing dinner at this Texas Steakhouse while passing through Roanoke Rapids! My wife has celiac disease and the staff was extremely helpful. Staff provided her with a large selection of choices as well as reassurance that whatever she chose would be prepared separately! The steak was cooked perfectly. Well worth the price! Customer service was top notch. 288jacobt,We appreciate the positive feedback! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your dinner and that you received excellent service from out team! While traveling south we stopped at this location for breakfast. We are always looking for this chain Since it doesn't take us far off the travel route and because they are always dependable. We were not disappointed. I had the old timers breakfast that consisted of coffee, turkey sausage, grits, 2 eggs and 2 biscuits. My husband had hashbrown casserole and chicken and biscuits. Total $27.75. Service was good and quick. I always enjoy looking at all the items for sale in the lobby. Bathrooms clean. We will stop there again and highly recommend.
Where to Eat in Roanoke Rapids: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Was told this was the number one place to eat, NOT! Food was bland, pulled pork and chopped pork was pretty tasteless, greens had no flavor, chicken and breading no taste, stew was passable, hushpuppies were just deep fried dough(no onions or spices). The banana pudding was ok. I only say these things because I'm from the south and KNOW southern cooking and bbq and this isn't it. Reminded of a Morrison's cafeteria. BUT the service was exceptional, thanks Beatrice! Perhaps I caught them on an off night, they have been around many years but I won't be back next time through.
