Things to do in Potsdam
This place opened up a few months ago in Potsdam and has been jam packed until recently. I finally got a chance to go in and try my first ever Five Guys burger and fries. They did not disappoint. When you walk in, there is a large pallet of potatoes (to show you they make their fries fresh and in house) and then a long order counter/kitchen area. You step up and order. At first, it was a bit overwhelming because they offer a lot of variations on burgers and dogs. I went with a bacon cheeseburger (apparently a "large" is a double burger and a 'small' is a single) loaded with a bunch of toppings. They have an extensive list or you can ask for "all in" and get a lot of toppings. Fries are extra - I ordered a 'small' (which was enough to feed two people) and a drink is extra. There are no combos... everything is a la carte. Once I ordered, they gave me an order number and I waited. The waiting/dining area is surprisingly large, with lots of regular tables and some high tops. Fountain drinks have free refills and are the big super options ones with any kind of soft drink you'd ever want (as well as teas). The restrooms are in the back - they are clean and roomy (and remarkably well kept even after the lunch rush). The food was good - my burger was huge... two patties, cheese, bacon, lettuce, onion, mushroom, pickles, mayo tomatoes and more. It was nicely cooked and served on a fresh roll. Fries were right out of the frier and cooked just right. I opted for the 'cajun' seasoning which added a bit of pep to them. I really recommend eating "in" while everything is hot and fresh... it was very good. I really liked the staff. They stayed busy, cleaning when customers were few and working the line when people came in. They seem to be high spirited... they were laughing and bantering with each other, all the while paying very close attention to the customers. I like to see happy hardworking staff... usually means the place is well run.The only downside here is the location. This used to be a gas station and the connection to the main roads is a bit tight, so be careful and patient when coming in or leaving. It's not the restaurant's fault... it's always been lie this. If they could exit right onto the overpass might make it easier. The parking lot is decent sized but can get tight during lunch and dinner rushes. Before I came, I heard a few locals complaining about the cost. The price is actually quite fair. I ordered a top of the line double burger, loaded with cheese and bacon and toppings, with enough fries to share, and a huge drink for about $15 (and add a couple bucks for the tip jar). For the portions, quality, and freshness, this stacks up very well against local fast food places as well as local restaurants. The lack of any sort of a 'combo' makes it seem pricier, but it really compares well. Highly recommended.

I think anyone who frequents Pizza Hut over the local pizzerias is either using a coupon or gift card. Typical Pizza Hut with salad bar. Lackluster service, campy environment, not the cleanest. My last couple visits left me feeling ill. I'm sure due to cleaning agents they use for the salad bar.
Soul Waffle is more than just waffles! We love the classics but also love to push the boundaries of the humble waffle iron to offer unique sammies and savory concoctions. We put the soul in waffle with friendly staff, a welcoming and inclusive store, and
This is a great addition to Potsdam's downtown. You order at the counter from a surprisingly large menu of waffles, soups, salads, and sandwiches. There is an early bird breakfast special 8-10am on weekends. I have had cranberry-orange, chocolate, and pumpkin waffles, and there are many more, including savory choices like tator tot or turkey and dressing waffles. The staff is friendly and the place is hopping.

My wife and I have eaten at the Timber Tavern in Parishville on several occasions and without a doubt, we'll be back many more times. The wings are simply dynamite and the burgers are great - I highly recommend the "Quebecois", which is a "poutine burger" - and order it with extra beef gravy on the side. Prices are reasonable and the quality is very good. Thanks for the review! I'm glad you guys enjoy our ridiculous burgers!

We went to this place at lunch and got a cozy booth for our party of 5 (including 2 kids). There was a kids menu which offered lots of options along with lunch specials and their main menu so tons of choices. Some of us ordered the soup as a side (it was excellent!). Hubby ordered one of the burgers - huge and also awesome and I ordered one of the lunch specials. A buffalo chicken mac and cheese. It was amazing and so huge that I had to take leftovers home with me. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their meals and the kids enjoyed their sundaes too! Overall, it was great food and the service was also great - enjoy!

Great service! But I had a hard time with the menu. No explanation about what something was or included. Coffee was warm, not hot. Food was good.

Tucked away on the corner of Market Street and Elm Street in Postdam, New York, Crush Bistro is the best kept secret in the North Country. Blending casual dining with delicious food, Crush is the place to catch up with friends, meet with a client, or mayb
Stopped by for mid-morning coffee while doing the gift shops in Canton and Potsdam. The perfect little break. First Crush Bistro could easily be missed from the outside but we were with some locals who love the place and I quickly figured out why. The welcome at the door, the buzz, the lack of loud music, the cozy hot cider, delicious latte perfectly made, and above all the wonderful homemade cinnamon delivered warm to our table by the gracious waitress game together to make a perfect picture and delicious morning coffee break. Around us people were enjoying sandwiches and warm soup, and happy conversation. A mixture of students, shoppers, business types, girlfriends each enjoying the ambiance and delicious fare. Well done First Crush I will return again when visiting the area.

Was staying/working in town last week and walked into town from my AirBNB. Maxfields looked inviting so I walked in and was impressed by the ambiance of this place. Bartender was dressed well and very attentive - made me a perfect Manhattan and was also very knowledgeable about the beers they had on tap. Food was delicious and I left wishing there was a place like this in my home town.I'll be back in the area later this month and look forward to exploring their menu!

I disagree with 1844 being characterized as expensive. Fine dining, yes, when entrees are in the teens and twenties, that is a moderately price and great value for the quality 1844 continues to produce. Some creative dishes, lovely presentation, and respectable service. It deserves its #1 ranking.
