This a where the locals eat and visit. We ate their twice, once on our way to the Iron Range and then on our return trip to St. Paul. Hubby loved the ( I think it is called the hay stack) haystack so much that he ordered it twice. On the return trip one of our friends ordered it on the recommendation of hubby. This breakfast of hashbrowns, large sausage patty, two eggs, smothered in sausage gravy is a sight to behold and eat. Both guys finished every morsel. I had something lighter, the fish sandwich. I was not disappointed. This will be a regular stop for us on our future travels to Minnesota.

I grew up on a farm near Pine City and so I am very familiar with this corner building on Highway 61 in the heart of town. From my earliest memory there has always been a restaurant here. Nicoll's is the latest incarnation. It's an old timey cafe with original high back wooden booths elevated from the rest of the dining room where there are just plain looking tables and chairs. Service here is efficient, polite and friendly like an old time cafe should be. They have a fairly large menu and do serve breakfast all day, so basically you can order anything off the menu at any time...have a burger for breakfast if you like. We were here at 11:30 am on a Sunday and it was quite busy, though we got one of the old booths without a wait. I ordered the #11 breakfast; 2 eggs, toast, hashbrowns, country fried steak with gravy. This is a really big filling meal and I'm not normally a "country-fried-steak" kind of guy, but I had not had one for many years and I was feeling nostalgic (being my old hometown and all). I believe country fried steak is basically the same as chicken fried steak, but either one is usually a breaded hamburger. The gravy was sausage gravy with sausage chunks- double the meat ...ha ha. Overall very good, not necessarily high-quality, but one does not eat here because they want 3-star Michelin style. One comes here because it is NOT a big chain restaurant like you find out at the freeway exits. This is comfort ambiance and small town friendliness. I highly recommend a stop here at Nicoll's.
This quaint hometown cafe serves up the best food in town. Owned and operated by two waitresses and a cook with a stir-in of family and a sprinkle of hard work. We offer made-from-scratch soups, specials, bread pudding and baked goods. You will love our h
Stopped in on a weekend morning and ordered their skillet. It was tasty and there was a lot of it. I had a black coffee, but they do have lattes and other specialty coffees. I will definitely come back.

Due to the fact that Hinckley MN is a tourist trap nightmare, my family and I stopped here in Pine City for a weekday summer lunch. My younger son was disappointed by his Philly sandwich that he claimed âwas a messâ (even though he ate the whole thing), but my gyro, my wifeâs salad, and my other sonâs burger were all great. Also, they have âinterestingâ beers on tap which I always appreciate. This place has a very informal âsports barâ feel to it â which I personally enjoy while eating lunch on vacation â but the one thing that I noticed is that the management may have been trying to cut costs by understaffing the place. Even though it was 11:45 a.m., there appeared to still be a lot of âprep workâ going on, and though we enjoyed our time there, the whole visit took a bit longer than it should have. That being said, the staff was very friendly, the food was as expected, and we plan to eat there again the next time we drive past Pine City.
See what the Colonel's cooking at your local KFC. Stop in today and enjoy our world famous chicken - it's Finger Lickin' Good!
Extra crispy chicken isn't extra crispy. Mashed potatoes were runny (yuck). Gravy did not have the flavor I've had at KFC. We won't go there again. This wasn't the first time--we had hoped that was a mistake but it wasn't. The Colonel's KFC needs to make a comeback!
