Stopped in for a bite, mainly because I love CHEESE! I mean, who doesn't?!? We were also looking for somewhere that we can stay on a low carb, gluten-free diet and this place had signs offering to accommodate special dietary or allergy restrictions. Be sure to take a number at the deli or at the cheese stand for service! I stood there oogling at the yumminess for a couple minutes before I realized people were calling numbers out. I think the 3 salad sampler for $10.99 is a great deal. They have so many good ones to choose from. There are some small 2 top tables hidden in the back by the wine. Afterward. We headed to the cheese counter to try out some delicious samples.

Per their website, "Longfellow's Wayside Inn is the oldest operating Inn in the United States, offering comfort and hospitality to travelers along the Boston Post Road since 1716." On the way into the dining room, there are some interesting historic exhibits in side rooms. Their restaurant is old school, a large room with linen tablecloths & napkins & nice background music. It has a rustic & atmospheric dining space with a post-and-beam interior. The complimentary cheese spread, served first, was made with cottage cheese & was rather bland. The crispy slices of bread though for the spread were better. Then again, how many restaurants offer a free appetizer these days? They also served a basket of rolls & a variety of mini muffins, which was nice. Heads up that, in addition to their regular menu, on weekdays (i.e., Mon. to Fri.), they also offer some 3 course dinner specials (appetizer, entrée, & dessert) for $23.95 - such a deal! They have a similar 3 course dinner special on Sundays as well. Lastly, I don't know whether it was quiet, because we dined on Labor Day, but it was very nice to have a leisurely dinner when you also could hear each other talk!

My friend was telling me about checking out Nancy's because of its location and generally favorable reviews. We had a short wait to sit in the area of the dining room that overlooked the runway and ramp. The waitress was fairly young and was not very attentive, she forgot coffee for my friend and I had to ask for refills. A good server should be able to see the obvious and ask a guest if they need more water, coffee etc. We ordered a mexican omelette, with a side salad and french toast. Food took a while and was mediocre. Would I go back? Maybe, but wouldn't make a special trip.

Yes, I know you go to restaurants for the food. As expected, most dishes are excellent (beet salad, chocolate desert) and some are merely very good (monkfish was cooked perfectly, but put in a tomato-bean stew, so losing some of the flavor). The wine was excellent and a small carafe rather than just a glass. But food is only part of the dining experience. I want nice decor, ambience and comfort. This is where Woods Hill Table excels on all three. It's a beautiful restaurant, with gorgeous wood floors (not too shiny but not overly worn), great street presence with windows and an awning that give it a very homey feeling. There is a huge stone fireplace and many other beautiful architectural and decor touches. The wide, armless, tan, leather, well-padded chairs are among the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat in in a restaurant. Why is that so hard for most restaurants. Most restaurant chairs are so uncomfortable I assume they want me to leave as soon as possible to avoid further pain. No one buys those kinds of chairs for their home. Why do restaurants provide such horrible seating? Most of the time I try to get a booth because I know the chairs are awful.. But not at this restaurant. The vibe matches the decor: very soothing but inspiring and refreshing. The staff are very attentive (and many are very attractive) and make you feel welcome, cared for and appreciated. They do the little things right. They pour chilled water without ice that is very tasty. Their bread baskets are pretty craft items with tasty but simple bread, and some of the best butter ever. The bill comes in a small wood container where the bill is rolled and placed into a circular well. There are slots on the side for inserting a credit card. So clever. We got our appetizers within a few minutes, but then had to wait half an hour for our entrees. That's too big a gap. The restaurant was almost full, so I expected some wait, but better spacing of courses. They seem to have enough wait staff, so it seems the kitchen couldn't keep up. A truly top flight restaurant wouldn't have that problem. The prices for some dishes are right, but some dishes seem a bit overpriced. The presentation of all dishes is excellent, so that is part of the reason for the prices. Also, Metrowest is sadly lacking in good restaurants, so the few that exist can charge above market prices. All in all, the birthday dinner was a pleasant experience. Too often we pay $200 for dinner for two and felt like it wasn't worth it. This felt like it was worth it.

A bunch of us come here every few months b before a club meeting for dinner and a social hour. We were waited on by two different people, one gal who was also taking care of the bar and another guy. Food was good as always, the service was a bit off. Some people got needed drink refills and other mid meal services while people on the far end of the table did not. Some even complained about the lack of service once we got to our club meeting. So this time it was both hit and miss within the same party (only 8 of us for dinner). However this time we learned the WIFI password. It's the phone number.

I always love to try their smoothie combinations and coffee flavors - there is always something new and different and no matter what it’s always delicious. Try the adult grilled cheese, you won’t regret it. This is a great spot - the portions are light and the side choices are always changing and it’s nice to have options aside from the typical fries or chips with a sandwich. It’s a little pricey but well worth it so I return again and again.

As was the sweet potato fries The menu has a number of sandwiches, subs, and meals - ribs, steak tips, chicken and ravioli - some of which I plan to try next time. They have upward of 20 draft beers with a high concentration from New England breweries.

Helen's Restaurant

This is a popular local spot perfect for tourists, too (Concord is a big tourist town). Looks and feels like a hip diner, but the food, esp breakfast, is anything but.

Helen's in the heart of Concord, Massachusetts has a breakfast menu that reminds you of what good hometown diners used to serve. The food is very good, comes quickly and is served with sincere friendliness. Be sure to visit the ATM before coming to Helen's as they only accept cash! We were there for breakfast so we didn't get to try one of the many flavors of ice cream that Helen's serves up, but we were tempted.
