As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 76,377, which had risen to an estimated 78,197 as of 2014. Surrounding communities include Methuen to the north, Andover to the southwest, and North Andover to the southeast. Lawrence and Salem were the county seats of Essex County, until the Commonwealth abolished county government in 1999. Lawrence is part of the Merrimack Valley.

Over a year later, we ordered out from Boston Chowda again (actually 3 times in the 2 weeks we stayed). The clam chowda, corn chowda, and fish chowda were all excellent. As usual, we ordered some lobster rolls, too. Yes, the lobster rolls are expensive, but they are high-quality. The service is fast, polite, and effective. There is nice variety to the menu; but for the last couple of years we basically ordered only the chowdas and the lobster rolls, so we don't know much about the other foods offered. We suspect they are tasty, too.

I ran into Lisa a couple of weeks ago, and she told me this was her new place. I had never tried it, when it was called something else, and really had no idea what to expect.Wow, what a place! They have a wide-ranging menu. I had shepherd's pie, Laura had joribito (sp?). Delish, both of them!Talked with a few really nice people, who, like us, we're glad to see Lisa in a new place.From the moment we stepped in the door, it felt like we belong there. It's hard to explain, but there's a real friendly vibe here.So much more than just a bar, it's a real down-to-earth Tavern. We really enjoyed tonight's meal, and we will definitely be back. Oh, and asked me if you want a 20% discount card. We know people ;)

Ernesto is the most informative waiter that we have ever had.He knows the menu inside out.We had the mustard crusted chicken and the sirloin tips, both very good.I miss the vegetable tempura app....please bring it back or make it a meal.We will be back.Hello,I am glad that you enjoyed your meals and especially pleased that Ernesto provided such great service. 2 couples joined together for a great fish meal. We arrived about 6 pm on a Friday and were seated right away. The service was very good as we never felt rushed. All had fish entrees. The summer shark was excellent. As were appetizers of Portuguese clam chowder (rather spicy), bisque, and NE clam chowder. We were a little surprised by the lack of a fried seafood combination. Prices were very reasonable (~$35 for appetizer, entree, and adult beverage.

Had a nice late lunch after a business meeting with a group of six. Would have been better not to squeeze six adults into a booth. Service was fine. Food was better than an average. Scollops were tasty and the veggies done perfectly.

Have lived down the street for two years, first time here for breakfast. Too start small OJ, and Chocolate milk. Breakfast ordered the Veggie Omelette with american cheese, sides wheat club toast, home fries and hash. Great friendly fast service, large portions great breakfast. Don't know why I have not been here earlier. Off street parking. Breakfast and Lunch only. Also a small kids menue. Will definitely be back. I can walk too here work off a great breakfast!

Reserved a table for 6 for a family gathering. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the place! The food was wonderful. Appetizers (nachos and truffle fries) were scrumptious. Our entree orders were varied (steak; pasta; fish & chips; sandwiches) and were all perfect. The server was attentive, friendly and fun to interact with. Jamie, himself, came to the table several times to ensure our satisfaction. This is definitely and place we will revisit soon.

LaRosa's located on Barnard St. just off Rt. 28 (Main St.) in the town center. Two large town/public parking lots very close. It's moved from mainly a fast service to a full service restaurant during the last few years. Plus added outdoor seating. Food is excellent. Sandwiches, salads and Italian specialties. I've been for both lunch and dinner and it's always good. So's the service. If you're in the area don't miss this place.

I have gone to the Irish Cottage in the past for dinner, but this was my first time going there for breakfast. Let me tell you, it wonât be my last time. The restaurant was clean and very comfortable to dine in. The service was fast and very professional. Our party enjoyed an All American Omelet, All American Breakfast & a Breakfast sandwich. Everyone agreed it was delicious and the portions were huge. If youâre looking for a good breakfast spot in and around the Methuen, check out the Irish Cottage, you wonât be sorry. As an added bonus the Irish Cottage has an all you can eat Breakfast buffet on Sundays. Entertainment is also offered some nights
