We stopped here for a quick lunch while cruising the Great River Road National Scenic Byway on Hwy 35. The Wooden Nickel is a typical Wisconsin Northwoods bar suitable for locals, hunters and travelers on the way. One of the rooms holds a u-shaped bar where there were a number of locals holding court. Another connecting room holds a small dining area lined with video slot machines and other entertainment. Restrooms are clean and bright. The bartender was also the server and the cook staff during our visit. Place your order at the bar and pay for the meal at the same spot. She was able to manage our four meals and about a dozen other folks without a lot of trouble. The food was basic but well done. I had a bacon cheeseburger (nicely grilled on a toasted bun) and onion rings. No complaint on my combo. The exterior looks questionable, but service, food and value were very good. It's worth a stop.

On the banks of the Mississippi (great river road).
This place continues to put out some of the best pizza in the area. Great stop for really good pizza and great service. The value is definitely there and I would recommend the beer battered mozzarella sticks. Good selection of beers and very friendly and attentive staff.

This place smells bad, service is painfully slow and it needs a deep cleaning. After waiting for our food for 20 minutes and seeing other people who came in after we placed our order get their appetizers and entrees before we got anything was upsetting. We ended up handoff the waitress $5 for two nasty soda and walked out. Perhaps if the waitress would've updated us on the progress of our order our even left the waitress area to check on us or our food it would've been okay. As it was, we had any appointment to be somewhere and nearly missed it. There were only two or three other small groups in the dining area. We did not order any special requests. This building has a GREAT view of the river but the windows are too filthy to be able to appreciate it.
Coffee on the River is located in a former grainery right by the banks of the Mississippi River. My husband and I shared a yummy salad that included blue cheese, apples, and croutons. We also split a heated ham sandwich that was accompanied by a delicious cream cheese spread and greens. The place has a variety of drinks including hot chocolate and warm apple cider. It is possible to eat both by an outside patio as well as inside with lovely views of the river. Other sections of the eatery consist of sofas and other other comfy chairs more suited like a living room. Free wifi.Coffee on the River is a welcome addition to a beautiful town, and it takes advantage of Lansing's best feature - the river! Well worth a visit.

Stopped by for lunch with teenage daughter. Older woman served us and I don't know if she was having an off day or what but it was pretty clear that she did not relish waiting on us and preferred hanging out behind the bar. She didn't bother pouring our water, just put the glasses and a pitcher on the table. When I asked about the having a lunch special that included the salad bar which ended at 1pm (it was about 1:45pm when we got there and the salad bar was still open and stocked) she told me that she would allow it this time but not the next. I don't know if she was trying to be funny, but the dour expression on her face didn't seem to indicate she was anything but serious. Then while at the salad bar, she made a point of coming over to me and informing me that it was a single serve offering. After we were close to finishing the meal, she drops the receipt on the table without asking if we wanted anything else. Having seen the appealing offerings in the dessert display, I would have been tempted. I said "it looks like you're not interested in selling me on a dessert". She started to reply and then turned around mid sentence and walked away as she was finishing what she was saying. I have no idea what it was she told me.There was a younger woman who served our food and was, by any measure of comparison, friendly enough. As to the food, the main course was decent-grilled chicken sandwich. The salad bar was similarly acceptable if not exceptional. The soup, however, was quite good. The price was reasonable for what we got, but the service and seemingly adversarial attitude from the waitress will keep us from actively returning or from recommending Miltys..I thank you for taking the time to review us and let us know what we can approve upon, as u stated above we do need to accomplish this rather soon.

The single pancake they serve you is huge, fluffy, and delicious. It is a meal by itself, but if you feel really hungry, they serve great sausage, bacon, and eggs as well. They have a full breakfast menu, but we always get a pancake. The restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly, and I forgot to mention that they have great donuts as well. If you are in Lansing, Iowa, donât miss this nice restaurant. Thanks for stopping in!! Great to hear you had a great experience......

We were on a road trip down the Great River Road, when we spotted the Main Channel. We had a delightful lunch on their deck and received wonderful service from Dana (?) too. If we lived closer, we'd come often!

We stopped for the pizza, which was perfectly made and delivered by the pizzamaker herself. Just the right ratio of crust to sauce to toppings. While waiting we snacked on peanuts. Our bartender made sure to get us beer we would love. We will visit the Safe House again and bring our friends.
