Not sure how I've missed ever eating in this establishment, since I've known about it almost my entire life. Celebrating its 90th year according to the front window. The interior has the charm of cinder block shed decorated with sports memorabilia from the hometown Blue Devils. The menu is short order standard - burger, grilled cheese, bologna burger, etc. I tride the Devil Dog - a hot dog with chili and everything else. Liked it well enough to have 2 of them. Companions had the same, plus bean soup and a salad.Several patrons gave us a look that made me think they noted we were not regulars, but nothing more than that. The server and cashier were friendly and solicitous and made our visit quite pleasant.Should I find myself in the neighborhood, I bet I'll stop in for another Devil Dog.

We visited early on Saturday and enjoyed both the food and ambiance. Our server was very courteous and attentive. We had the crab dip, crab cakes and twice baked potatoes. Everything was tasty except the tartar sauce, which was pretty much straight up mayonnaise. We also enjoyed the Dockside Hurricanes.

We ate here on a Friday evening while stopping on our way through to the south. Very clean. We did opt to order from the menu, but the buffet and salad bar looked appetizing. Very nice waitress who was spot on refilling drinks etc.We would visit again. Great prices and very clean!

Have been here 2 times & both times have been good. Quick to get food, everything we had was fresh and good quantity.

From the minute we walked in the staff was friendly & professional. Our server, Samantha, was very friendly, polite, attentive and did a great job. We had the AUCE Garden Salad Bar and a bacon & BBQ cheeseburger. The burger was adequately cooked and served hot. The front of the house staff is what made this restaurant get the 4 star rating.

SC BBQ snob review. Having eaten Q across the USA, I am extremely critical of BBQ and accompanying sides.Place was clean including the restrooms. Picnic style table top was sticky but appeared clean? Service was very good but correct order fulfillment was lacking. The place had more staff than customers when we stopped in on a Thurs just after 1 PM.The pulled pork was cooked properly and was moist even though it was served on a bun that I had asked to be eliminated (my request was even printed on the receipt). The house sauce was good with a semi-sweet catchup base and is incorporated into the pulled pork which is a big NO NO for true Q, so I cannot comment on the actual taste of the meat or smoke content. The unconventional slaw was horrible and contained pineapple/jalapenos/cilantro which was served on the side as requested and then they charged each of us 15 cents to do that? Potato salad was average. The warm 3 bean salad had potential but was overloaded with thyme to the point we left half of it. The BBQ chicken quarter was served with excessive dry rub to the point it was falling off onto the plate and the taste was not conducive of any BBQ I had ever eaten. (*FYI: Per staff, this same rub is used on the ribs) I stripped off the skin/rub and the meat itself was cooked properly with little smoke flavor. Utilizing the provided small container of sauce directly on the meat made it pretty good. No sauce jugs for patron use on the tables. Another NO NO for a true BBQ place. The addition of the Hopewell food tax put more punishment on the tab. With the tip it was $31.00 for my wife and I for a lunch. Very expensive for the sub par meal we got. Scratch this one.*Note this review was completed without using ridiculious undiscriptive terms like OMG, awesome, yummy, to die for, do your self a favor, trust me, etc.. We don't care about your allergies or the need for gluten free food. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No one cares about the waiter/waitress names or their abilities. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one.

No credit cards but they do have an ATM inside. We enjoyed the pull pork dinners and wow...glad we only got the small dinners! Portions were huge along with great selection of side portions. We only paid 6.95 each for our dinners. Lots of selections on the menus. They are open Monday thru Friday 11-8pm. All the desserts are homemade as well and our one dinner companion stated that the rice pudding was the best he had tasted. We also sampled lemon meringue pie and and interesting version of strawberry shortcake that was make with twinkies...very very good. Great staff and food was served quickly. Won't hesitate to stop here again when we are in town.

Bringing river front dining back to Hopewell! The Boathouse at City Point has incredible scenic views of the Appomattox and James rivers
I have come here a few times, in various seasons, and it's always a great place and fairly popular. In warmer weather the outside tables have a great view, but even in colder weather they have heaters outside.Joseph, thanks for coming by! I'm happy to see you were impressed with our restaurant and we hope you'll come back and see us again sometime. Best,Anne, Director of Sales, Marketing, & Public Relations
