Discover Restaurants offering the best American food in Durango, Colorado, United States. Once a frontier mining town, Durango draws thousands of tourists year-round for the myriad outdoor recreational activities and scenic beauty. Mountain bikers, rafters, kayakers, horseback riders, rock climbers, hikers, campers, hunters and fishermen are drawn to the two-million acre San Juan National Forest and to the San Juan mountains, the largest range in the Rockies. But the city's biggest tourist draw is a nine-hour historic train ride in a vintage steam locomotive. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which hauled precious metals in the 1880s, now takes tourists for a 47-mile, open-air journey through mountains and forests and past abandoned mines to historic Silverton and back. Children and train buffs will relish the chance to climb into a locomotive and pore over railroad memorabilia at the railroad's museum. Skiers flock to the Durango Mountain Resort in winter, which also offers hiking, fishing, rafting and horseback riding in warmer months. Slow down your pace with a stroll past splendidly restored Victorian buildings in historic Downtown Durango and wind up a very active weekend in a local brewpub or saloon.

Steamworks Brewing Co. Opened its doors in Durango in September 1996. A favorite watering hole for locals and visitors alike, the brewpub has much more to offer than award-winning craft beer. Known as a town meeting place, Steamworks enjoys a bustling, fu
We had an amazing meal with wonderful beer, food and service. Maddie, our waitress, seemed to really be excited about the beer offerings and the food. She was really attentive to us having a couple small kids too. Thankfully she recommended the Dirty burger too. It was incredible. Probably in the top five or ten burgers I have ever had in my life. The cheese curd appetizer and dirty fries appetizers were great. Our kids loved them as much as we did. The kids menu was super reasonable for the quality of the food and price.Maddie knew the beer menu and was a great waitress. This was one of our best meals on vacation and our only regret was not having the time to hit Steamworks up again on this trip. The service was super prompt, but we didn't feel rushed. We ordered beers and the two appetizers. The apps were at the table about four minutes later and the beers soon followed. Great service and food. You cannot go wrong.

El Moro Spirits & Tavern was created in the building that once housed the El Moro Saloon in the early 1900's. The food is modern-rustic: common foods from the early 20th century created with modern culinary techniques. Handcrafted cocktails, an extensive
Sat at the bar and had an excellent lamb burger. Bun made in house - yummy! Lamb served with rosemary sauce, feta and a fresh beat. Very different but good. Fries were a disappointment - would prefer them crispier. Nice atmosphere with friendly service. Interesting menu and appear to also have great, inventive cocktails.Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Donna. It warms out hearts to hear that you liked our different approach to the Lamb Burger dish. We apologize for your fries being undercooked. We will forward this to our management team so we can avoid limp fries in the future. We look forward to your next visit!

Stopped by for lunch after reading all the positive reviews. Maybe we were expecting something stellar, but were underwhelmed by the whole experience. The atmosphere is old west and probably the best thing about this place. Service was average and nothing special. The food was not particularly good. Edible, but not great. Walked away feeling disappointed.

after quite a long wait we got seated. the atmosphere is happy and the service friendly and generous, the local beer i tried (lager) was ok and the burger was a bit better than average. the prices are fair and all in all its an ok place, no more than that.Happy, friendly, generous, above average burgers, fair prices. That sounds like a 5 star home run :)Its funny you mentioned the Lager because 11 days ago we won the bronze medal at the GABF for that exact beer and they are tough judges. From the Durango Herald 10/7/2019:Carver Brewing Co.âs Lightner Creek Lager won the bronze medal in the light lager category at the Great American Beer Festival on Saturday in Denver.About 90 beers were entered in the category this year. Lightner Creek Lager previously won silver in the category in 2016.We pride ourselves on being everything you described and thanks for the review.Jim Carver

This was just an awesome breakfast with fresh, hot coffee, homemade biscuits, GREAT home fries! I had the traditional Benedict, which was yummy - hollandaise was creamy big light. Son had the smothered burrito, which he said was greet with just the right amount of heat (too hot for me undoubtedly). BLT was great along with regular egg dish. Highly recommend!

Established in 1972, the Ore House is one of Durango's oldest and finest restaurants. Featuring hand cut USDA certified Black Angus prime and choice steaks, steaks from ranches surrounding southwest Colorado, sustainable seafood, all natural poultry, seas
We chose this restaurant from a recommendation from a local. We looked up the restaurant online to gauge menu and pricing. We went early to avoid waiting and it filled up quickly. My 10 oz filet was $45.00. I've dined at restaurants with pricing at this level but typically but when I order medium and it's the rare side of medium rare, I expected better. Two sides were an additional $16.00. If they were tasty, my review would be different.

Having spent the day on the train up to Silverton and back we thought we would like to eat somewhere that was quick and simple.Derailed was certainly that. The restaurant is primarily a cocktail bar/pub which doesn't take bookings and has a a reasonablely extensive small plates type of menu. Along one wall is the full bar with high stools and the rest of the seating is an eclectic mix of sofas & airchairs, high tables and stools and benches. There are a number of large TV screen screens either showing music videos or sports. We ordered a bottle of wine and then a number of small plates. We had the potstickers which were by far the best dish, a fklatbread which was OK but which too much dressing onb it, the chicken tenders which were dried out from being overcooked, the caesar salad which was fine and finally the Cuban sandwich with fries which was one dish too many. The portions were generous and the service was excellent being friendly and efficient. The meal filled the gap but the quality of the food was just so-so (except for the potstickers)

The James Ranch Grill (aka Harvest Grill at James Ranch) has reopened! We still have the same organic ingredients produced on our ranch/farm or grown locally making our burgers, melts and everything else on the menu delicious and we also have a back deck,
Re-opened just before Labor Day with a larger dining space and a fuller kitchen and menu, this farm-to-table restaurant features burgers raised on grass in their own pastures, plus locally grown greens, eggs, etc. The setting is jaw-dropping - set in a green mountain valley, spectacular vistas lie all around you. The "Signature Burger" offers just the right mix of burger and fixins - lots of customization options besides (I like adding bacon). Interesting sides include a kale slaw, and apps like short ribs. Don't expect a menu like a diner's -- this is focused on burgers first -- but expect to be wow-ed.So happy that you enjoyed your time with us Steve. We really strive to provide the healthiest, freshest, local, organic ingredients as possible combined to make a great meal. Hearing back from people like you makes us realized we are reaching our goal. Thank you for taking your time to share your experience!
