Bethesda is an unincorporated, census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. In Aramaic, ܒܝܬ ܚܣܕܐ beth ḥesda means "House of Mercy" and in Hebrew, בית חסד "beit ḥesed" means "House of Kindness". The National Institutes of Health main campus and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are in Bethesda, as are a number of corporate and government headquarters.

The place is busy and you have to be sharp to find a spot/table at happy hour. I waited a good 20 minutes to snag a high table for 2 and the waitress was very quick, polite, and good. Ordered a good pour of wine at $5 and got oysters, sushi, empanadas and all the food was good. The waitress was on top of things in spite of how busy/crowded/noisy it was. Will come back for more happy hour.

An old, old school diner in downtown Bethesda that represents one of the last bastions of the past and has withstood the relentless onslaught of building cranes that has transformed Bethesda into a concrete jungle Beltway. The place is comfy, cozy, has intimate wood booths and individual jukeboxes. Lots of local color and characters--you might say a motley melange. So much for nostalgia. Our waitress was also old-school--abrupt,gruff,just-gimme the order type of person...get-em-in-get-em-out! First, the coffee...reconstituted diesel fuel--literally undrinkable, at least for me. I asked for milk with the coffee and the server said she had to into the "basement,"as they had run out upstairs--I kid you not! After I poured the milk the coffee turned chocolate brown--I had three sips and muttered to my wife..."no mas..." I ordered the Denver omelette and it was decent enough and palatable but did not come with potatoes. My wife's eggs and bacon were also sans potatoes. Growing up in New Jersey and very used to diners I don't believe I have ever been served the above without potatoes included. I later learned that home fries are considered a "side order" and cost 2.75!!! What a ripoff. So,don't bother, really,if you value your discretionary dollar. If not, come for the blast-from-the-past ambiance and remembrance of things past.

Our friends group had a nice lunch experience at Rock Bottom Brewery in the heart of Bethesda, MD. Server Kendra and other staff were attentive and friendly. I enjoyed the tasty Salmon and strawberry salad. It was served fresh and cold. The salmon was very nicely prepared although I wish the fish serving would have been a bit larger at a price of +15.00 for the salad.

We have visited this chain in many cities and love it. The breakfast choices are all yummy but huge so order less. The omelets and pancakes are to die for! Nice service and a comfortable environment. Will return!

Fantastic food The Hawkawah Oxoixit $%#@? the omelet is off the hook and the Caramel French toast is great... but the battle today was getting served.. nothing irritates me more than when a Hostess seats you and doesn't tell the server you have a new table.. aside from that it looks like they're having a team meeting with 10 servers around the table with the manager and they we're looking at me as I'm looking around I've still got the menu in front of me and no drinks..... I finally stand up and tell the hostess I haven't seen a server yet... another four to five minutes goes by before he shows up...No pep in any ones step...

While in Bethesda for business, I went to dinner by myself. I liked the options on the menu and chose the Mussel Bar and Grill. The hostess was very friendly and when I was seated the manager came and took my order. The server - Mason - was very attentive and responsive. The service was excellent. I had a half-order of mussels with bacon and an excellent broth. It was served with fries and bread. They were excellent - flavorful, well prepared and more than. enough for a full meal. I will return when I get back to Bethesda.

The layout for the brunch is simple--salad and cold seafood, some hot food, and then dessert. It doesn't sound like much but man, everything was fresh and tasty. The salad dressing was appropriate. The clams and mussels and prawns were fresh and springy. The beef steak was juicy and the sauce that accompanied it just full of umami. (My saliva glands are working as I type.)And I should mention that the drinks--I recommend the bellini with ginger--went very well.Go for it.

Choosing to visit for lunch an old favorite, my party of three friends ate here one week day recently. The atmosphere and attentive wait staff were the only good things I can say about our meal. First of all, I will warn that when I began this review, I observed that the in-house menu is quite different than what's posted. Second, when ordering an iced tea- unsweetened, I was served an 'arnold palmer', which I did not like and promptly returned. The entrees (soup and sandwiches) were adequate, but not tasty. The only food I enjoyed was a kale/cabbage slaw accompanying a sandwich. The chicken tortilla soup was way overpriced (9.) and nothing like the brothy other versions I have enjoyed elsewhere. For a side order of fries, we were charged $14- YES, you read that correctly !! All in all, this was not the wonderful experience we used to remember in the distant past and, needless to say, I probably won't be back.
