Family owned since 1963. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and daily specials.
Six of us went for lunch and expected more. Waitress was lovely, but my smothered chicken which was the daily special took 15 minutes longer than everyone else's food...not her fault, but no explanation of what happened was offered, just a quick apology. The fries were frozen crinkle fries, the chicken fried steak was salty, the Cole slaw was really oniony, and the chicken was just okay. Desserts looked terrific, would just get dessert if we were ever to return which is unlikely.

Our family of six took a drive through Washington and stopped at Cowan's for lunch. The food was delicious (even our pickiest eater was pleased), reasonably priced, and our server was great! We usually skip dessert, but could not resist a piece of pie, and it was worth it!

Had been to Mount Pleasant in a couple years and good time seeing the Steve Ewing band on the patio for free on a sunday afternoon. Wasn't crowded with the colder temps but still a good time and nice free tour we got from Jack. Not a huge selection of wines but we like all of them except one that was too sweet for us. The 2010 norton was very good and especially if you use the special glass for it. Prices per bottle not the cheapest at $30ish for the better wines. The tasting was $10 for 4 small samples and you get to keep the nice wine glass. Fun area and good views from this winery. Probably a nice place to have or got to a wedding which they do plenty of them.

We came out for dinner on a Saturday night. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip which was smazing. Our server recommended the pasta special. The pasta had shrimp, crab meat with sun dried tomatoes and asparagus mixed in a cheese butter sauce. It was really good. I highly recommend the Hawthorne Inn for dinner.

Food was good. Seemed understaffed but it was 60 degrees in December. I just cannot get over that we were sitting at the bar inside, we were drinking and eating, just my husband and I, my bloody Mary was 8.50 which is fine...but really, u charge me $1 for a glass of water unless I go outside and get it from the jug...stupid and ridiculous.

False advertising...Do NOT believe the Silly Goose website and don't mind the sign in front of the building-this restaurant can not accommodate! Despite checking their website and Facebook page, our family was not seated and turned away on a slow Thursday night (two cars in the parking lot) because walk-ins are not welcome. We were repeat customers and were surprised to be turned down at the door, very disappointed that our local restaurant could not seat us due to understaffing issues. If you are going to be reservations only, time to take down the sign in front of your building and make the necessary changes online. We live in Augusta but will now drive the extra mile to find the many other family-friendly restaurants that are staffed and ready to serve us without the rude hostess who snubbed us. Considering their overpriced food menu and sub-par wait staff in a rural location you think they would welcome a party of five but apparently not. Drive to Washington where the food and service are far superior!
