The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls and many Byzantine churches remain from the medieval period. The seat of the municipality is the town Molaoi.

We were fortunate enough to attend a large family reunion party here. The staff was friendly and helpful. We can’t say enough about the food setting and atmosphere. Everything was excellent - appetizers, salad, wine, chicken, lamb, beef dishes all perfect. Highly recommend. We went back for lunch a couple of days later.

We liked this place so much we ate there twice. The food was Greek but with a more stylized approach...same ingredients, all fresh & delicious. The staff were excellent, friendly & helpful. Andreas was particularly helpful & did that great waiter thing...remembered his customers. The wine suggestions were great each time. On top of the great food & great staff, the ambiance is lovely & there is a roof top Terrace with lovely views. You won't be disappointed!

This is one of a number of restaurants on the harbouside - not the most idyllic setting on the main road but the food made up for it,It is always reassuring when you have a large group of animated greeks next to you enjoying the food
We had grilled marinated octopus grilled local cheese zucchini flowers stuffed with rice and small squid all deliciousi,The squid had been shopped into small pieces not rings and fried.
This was not standard greek fare but had a flare and innovation to it not commonly seen in a lot of greek restaurants
The service was excellent and informative

At this place, tradition meets modernity. A romantic journey from today to yesterday. A Small paradise on Earth. Since all traditional objects match harmoniously with the large- impressive bar. Jazz, rock and lounge music ... are your companion while you enjoy a signature cocktail, by Panagiotis (Greece Champion & World Champion), on the Terrace by overlooking the sunset. The staff with its funky mood will cheer you up, since they know how to do it better than all.

It's is right by the entrance of kastro Monemvasia. It's is a 3storey cafe, cocktail bar and does really nice breakfasts opposite a local artist gallery called Malavas (not sure of the gallery's name). Excellent drinks, staff and beautiful panoramic views from the top floor of the sea and Gefira and across... Really nice owner with lovely coffees and freshly made breakfast etc. at night it's a nice little joint for cocktails, drinks, music and splendid views of the night sea and bay etc.
I found Emvasis to be charming and very conducive to the writing I needed to do. The chilled-out music was what drew me in originally. The decor and views from inside are beautiful, and the coffee and service are great! Everything I ate and drank there was excellent, especially the coffee and cake, and cooked breakfast. It's a really good place, and I will be going back! It's a bar, so you can have pretty much what you like to drink.

Superb beach position overlooking the rock of Monemvasia. The service is typical of a traditional Greek taverna. The food at a satisfactory level in terms of flavors, quality and quantity. Prices are reasonable.

At Byron's Wine tasting Kamara we serve wines elaborated by Monemvasia Winery, produced from very old local varieties going back to the Middle Ages and probably earlier. The wines we serve are accompanied by delicious "mezze" (local tapas) made by Byron and his wife Vivienne. You will not only delight your taste buds but learn about the famous Malvasia-Monemvasia wine.
Byron and Vivienne are hosts that you will never forget. This was a truly warm and memorable experience for many reasons. Byron and Vivienne the owners were such a delight to be around...it was like drinking wine with family! The tasting allowed us to experience the many wonderful wines of the region while learning about their wine history and process. All the wines were delicious especially the Rose'...be careful...it sneaks up on you :) Allow enough time to enjoy the wine, hospitality and a wonderful experience to remember. Highly Recommended!

The food here isn't especially memorable, but it's perfectly good and the service is friendly. The draught wine's on the dodgy side but they do have reasonably-priced bottles. A good choice if you're in the area (though probably not worth driving out to if you're not!)

With the inspirational guidance of the internationally acclaimed chef Michalis Dounetas, the new restaurant ‘Chrisovoulo’ offers all the wholesome freshness that the Laconian hillsides have to offer with an enticing array of regional specialties served with his signature avaunt-garde cuisine. Traditional past meets the present with selective gourmet cuisine aimed to delight our guests with a unique gastronomic experience, guaranteed to impress whilst, served in a glamorous setting for a relaxed candlelit dinner.
A welcome change from taverna fare, more cosmopolitan and sophisticated than the other restaurants in ultra-picturesque Monemvasia. The carefully prepared fusion dishes, showcasing local produce and techniques, are mostly successful, All of the ingredients are fresh and of high quality. The setting is beautiful and the service polished but friendly. Prices are slightly above average but well worth it.
