The Limetree has been one of the top restaurants in South West Scotland for more than a decade. There is consistent emphasis on the best quality ingredients, many sourced from the Moffat area and seasonal cooking.Chef Matt Seddon sums it up well: "I cook what I like to eat - real food - big taste, real flavour, no fuss."
The chef loves to use strong flavours in his starter and mains and fresh ingredients.
The result is very tasty, but by using the same ingredients for different dishes, the favours do not change much.
The fresh bread is delicious. The risotto was perfectly well cooked, slightly over powered by a strong onion/bacon taste - the delicate chanterelles were lost.
The meat was perfectly cooked to my likings and very tender and lots of it, but again almost caramelised onions spoiled the taste a bit. A little jus instead would have been very welcome. Very delicate 'gratin dauphinois' though. Pleasant atmosphere in the small restaurant. Good value for money!!
I would love to come back and taste different dishes.
Maybe next year!

Smart intimate restaurant in the centre of Moffat open to non-residents. Serving the best in local seasonal Scottish produce. Recent awards: Food Review Scotland 4 star, Hotel Review Scotland , Real Food Award Dumfriesshire and elected Game-to-eat Restaurant of the month.
Stopped, here with a tour group for lunch but in spite of the crowd, the food was very good and the service was friendly quick and efficient. We had roast beef with all the trimmings and bread pudding for dessert...all were good

Centrally located on the high street next to the Famous Star Hotel. Lower level restaurant. With wheel chair access and facilities. Established local restaurant fully licensed ,where the food is cooked in the same way as with any Indian would cook at home. Our emphasis is on the food with pleasant surroundings and a warm friendly welcome. The best way to sample home cooking at it's best is to have a Indian Tapa(complete meal for one). Being family oriented,we welcome children of all ages. All our food is colour free and healthy eating habits. We have just added corn bread for those who do not eat wheat based bread. We are now open 6Days except TUESDAY on winter season and Sundays are the Buffet which start from 4pm and finish at 8pm. Many thanks KAMAL ...
A year since we came here and still the same complaint - restaurant was freezing, there were about 12 diners and about 5 sat with their coats on - I was tempted to put mine on but I wouldn’t have felt comfortable eating with a coat on!
Staff were very friendly and the food was ok - nothing exciting I’m afraid but I did leave with a full tum.

An integral part of the Buccleuch, our restaurant, aptly named the "Beef Tub Comfort Grill" has an enviable reputation throughout Southern Scotland. Whether dropping in for a bar meal or a dinner, you can be sure that our chefs use the finest ingredients to prepare award winning food every day of the week. How fortunate we are in the South Scotland and surrounds to have so many suppliers that meet our very high standards of quality, providing food products of the highest standing all of the time. Indeed Scotland is blessed with many world class producers who are as passionate about quality food as we are. These are not just idle words but form a very serious part of the very ethos of this hotel. We are proud, in the truest sense of the word to present you with product and dishes from some of our key food suppliers and producers that would meet the criteria of the most discerning kitchens anywhere! Having identified our quality suppliers, we take on the responsibility and challenge of working with their raw product and presenting our guests with a dish we can all be proud of. It is with great pleasure that over the years we have developed a strong understanding of the coeliac disease and the creation of coeliac dishes. It gives us so much gratification when we see people who have not eaten out in years who have been able to come and enjoy our food with confidence. See our menus for information on how we go about catering for our coeliac (and other dietary requirements) guests.

We came here on our first night in Moffat. Didn't fancy a pub and glad we didn't. Nice spacious layout, friendly staff. Had the happy hour special. Garlic mushrooms were superb. And the dough balls good too though a bit salty.
We both had pizzas and swapped half. Could taste the flavours, lovely crisp and thin base.
Service was a touch slow but possibly as we were hidden round a corner but we weren't in a rush so no huge drama.
Saw other food going out and it all looked lovely!

Shambolic from the outset. Wrong drink orders, wrong food orders, brought starters and mains all together. Seemed very disorganised and also seemed to think the chaos was our fault.
Ambiance was fine, food was unimaginative but adequate, although not traditional which would have been nice.
Will definitely look for somewhere else next time.

My wife and I visited for a three day mid week break, staying in one of the cottages. The accommodation was fantastic, with lots of additional touches which made it really special for us. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were superb.
We both had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend a visit.
Thank you so much.

This is a good place to eat lunch or dinner in a typical Scottish themed restaurant. Cosy corners and plenty of traditional Scottish artefacts on the walls.

We stopped in Moffat for lunch break while touring Scotland. This place was hopping busy and we found out why. They have a great menu for full meals or snacks. We were served good food fast. It was a warm day and we opted for the outdoor Seating on sidewalk as did many others out with their dogs which was a nice way to take in the town.
