. . . I have eaten in Japan. I happen to have a small pic I can post, but what you are looking at is what I bought my first trip to this restaurant in 2004. It was so good, I returned a 2nd time to Kesennuma mainly to eat here, and this time, I bought the full uni don (no pic). Both were the most expensive thing on the menu, around 3000-3500 yen. From the pic you can see why I feel the best uni comes from this area, e.g., Miyako area, which is a little north of Kesennuma. It's a desecration to put wasabi and soy sauce on this thing.Alas, this little restaurant inside the fishmarket at Kesennuma is obviously gone. Not sure it will ever reopen, but one who knows? The fishmarket sold many kinds of fish, including mambo (sunfish), both fresh and frozen. Your best chance to sample mambo is at ryokans/minshukus in the area, since they don't eat this fish elsewhere in Japan. I was also fortunate to try shark heart sashimi at Wafu Isomura ryokan, which had a crunchy, fresh taste, even though it looked like liver. What you are looking at are the few pics I had downsized to send to a friend by e-mail. I took around 130,000 pics during my 15 years in Japan, however I will only be able to sort thru them when I am retired and have the time. Plus they are all 5-10 megapixel and will have to be downsized. In fact the pics that reviewers post on Tripadvisor are the only way I can remember many of the places I've been, so that I can intelligently comment on them, so I hope to contribute in this fashion eventually.
It is obvious that the freshness of the material is good. If the chef's skill is good, it is like a model for finishing such a delicious dish.
