The Northland of KC is developing a cluster of Asian restaurants on North Oak Trafficway called a Pagoda village. Today we tried Broken rice not knowing what to expect except there was a table of Asian men talking loudly which is a good sign. The meal began with a complementary basket of shrimp chips, fresh and crisp, they were a warm-up for what followed. A plate of broken rice, grilled pork and pickled vegetables accompanied by dipping sauce was sensational. The grilled pork was slightly charred and in the sauce was wonderful. The plate of food is very generous and comes with a bowl of chicken broth which I had to surrender after two mouthfuls. The other diner had a combination plate with everything that allowed him to try it all...there was nothing left of grilled chicken, sugarcane shrimp, egg cake a crispy pork filled tidbit and more. The assistance was there when needed and the food came out quickly. We will be back!

Excellent Vietnamese cafe in the Northland! Flavors were complex and well balanced; excellent service and owner was very friendly checking on us frequently. Portions were generous, very tasty! Hurry to My Xuyen before it becomes too crowded! We will be back soon!

This was a bit hard to find as it is tucked in the back of a strip mall off of the main street. However it was worth finding. It is a small family restaurant, with about 10 tables, mostly 4 and 2 tops. The menu is on the smaller side, but the choices are freshly made to order. There are huge spring rolls as a starter and mostly noodle bowls as the main entrees. The bowls we had contained steak, that has a nice char, so they seemed to be grilled. Same for the shrimp I had in my bowl, but they were a bit overcooked. The bowls were very filling and the prices were on the cheap to mid range side. Good for lunch and dinner.

4. San's Sandwich

The menu is in both Vietnamese and English, but the pictures are very helpful for ordering by number. San was very inviting and explained the menu in great detail. He also said they were happy to make substitutions of meat in the dishes, and varying degrees of spicyness if we preferred. Huge bowls and nice portions at fair prices. The space was large and easily accomodates larger parties. I would definitely recommend San's.
