We were staying at the Elms and ate our breakfasts and one of the dinners there. The food at the Elms was excellent, but the food at the Ventana Gourmet Grill surpassed anything that I've had anywhere. It was a memorable meal, not just great. If you're there on a Tuesday, I'd highly recommend their all you can eat shrimp, which were large and well prepared---hot and tasty. They were accommodating and allowed me to substitute vegetables (delicious grilled zucchini) for the baked potato. The salad that came with the meal was also excellent, fresh spinach with bacon and veggies. My husband had the best shrimp scampi that he's ever had (I'm from St Louis--he's originally from New Jersey and lived in Florida). He raved about it. In fact, we lived in Florida for 8 years and never had such good seafood. That's some statement for a small restaurant in a small town in the middle of the country. I highly recommend Ventana and will return, even if it is a bit of a drive from St Louis.

Palermo's

Visited with my girl on Friday night at 5:00pm. A family of three and another couple were waiting in front of us on the only small bench available. Another couple came in after us. A large group of perhaps 20 red hat ladies were in the midst of a celebration at the large table. The couple behind us waited to be acknowledged for 5 minutes and walked out. At least 4 workers stood around the counter chatting and seeming very uninterested. Tables began to empty. Still, we weren't seated. The couple sitting on the bench, walked out. No one acknowledged them. Two tables at this point and emptied and been cleaned and reset. Several groups left from the other side of the dining room. Still, we weren't seated. Still, they stood around the counter. After we had been standing and waiting for at least 15 minutes, I approached a very young shy girl at the counter. I asked specifically why tables were empty and yet we were not being seated. I indicated that the family of three had been there longer than we had, 4 tables were now open and still, we weren't being seated. She timidly said it would be about ten or fifteen minutes. I said to her (notice my quotes here), "I understand that, but you didn't answer my question. I asked you why tables are open and we aren't being seated". She said, "I'll go get my manager". "Thank you, you do that". Approximately 5 minutes later an older woman approached and said it would be a few more minutes before we would be seated. I asked her specifically why tables were open and we weren't being seated. She told me that they had just turned in the large order for the big table and that they didn't want us to sit at the tables and wait. Are you kidding me!! You would rather have your guests standing in the entryway in front of the doors or crowded on a small bench, than to be comfortably seated at a table, reading the menu and enjoying a glass or wine. Needless to say, we walked out.We drove all the way into Liberty, called ahead for seating at Olive Garden. Even with a really packed entryway, we were seated and enjoying our drinks in a matter of less than 5 minutes. Take lessons Palermo's...………………..I won't be back.
