Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

Want to enjoy everything beautiful Traverse City has to offer while still experiencing the small-town quaintness this town is known for? Look no further and stay with us as the Island View Cottages! Conveniently located on beautiful West Grand Traverse Bay, our family owned and operated cottages offer a secluded retreat tucked amongst the trees just a short 6-8 minute scenic walk along the water to downtown and less than a half mile from Old Mission Peninsula. Be transported back to a quieter time in one of our vintage cottages from the 1950’s. Still in original condition, these cottages offer many conveniences of home including fully equipped kitchenettes, bed and bath linens, air-conditioning, as well as cable and internet! All cottages are located in close proximity to each other as well as our 132’ private beach. We have 9 cottages and 3 large houses on site that can accommodate group sizes from 2, up to 10 in our largest house, or get a party together and book several!
Great little place with BEACH ACCESS. We stayed in Cottage #11. Our hosts/landlords were wonderful; friendly and attentive. It offers a laid back atmosphere. Our cottage included a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Everything is very clean. Window AC and pedestal fan is really all you need. We did not cook or do the fire pit thing at the location, but many of our "neighbors" did and it was a very collegial, but quiet vibe. The beach access is superb and we spent a lovely afternoon sunning and swimming. It is about a 15 minute walk to downtown Traverse City. Just enough to work off all the wine, beer, and good eats. Would highly recommend and would come back!

What began as a logging town in 1892 has evolved into an old-fashioned summer resort. Watervale features fourteen cottages, suites of rooms and the historic Inn where breakfast and dinner are served daily. Watervale is situated on two lakes with over a mile of private shoreline on both Lake Michigan and Lower Herring Lake. Ammenities include tennis courts, sand and beach volleyball, basketball court, shuffleboard and a playground. Watervale is also located in between two Conservancy properties that feature miles of hiking and biking trails. Watervale is the ideal spot for a family reunion, retreat or wedding.
If you are good with sharing bathrooms, no TV, and monk-size single rooms, this is the place for you. You will get friendly service and two meals per day cooked for you. The water at your toes. Paradise.

nice rooms with full bathrooms in each, 24 hour access to refreshing pool, fishing on the canal, hot tub, and sauna. we had a blast. hosts are helpful and informative but not watching or clinging to you. i almost hate to write such a good review because i don't want more people to find it, but at the same time they deserve the credit!

Our entire family rented the cottages the week of August 2nd. I rented the 3 bedroom/2 bath cottage and there was plenty of room, the beds were comfortable and the cottage had everything you could possibly need. I loved that each cottage had it's own deck with patio furniture and grill. The only downside to these cottages is that there is no view of the lake and if you have little kids, it's hard to not worry when they leave your cottage to go to another one because the layout isn't open. You can't see the other cottages from yours and there are a lot of tree's, etc. The owners were very nice and easy to work with, very accommodating.

ThE Vintage View provided a lovely home base for a most relaxing vacation. The two bedroom apt was just the right size and we were able to make use of the pool each day. Sara and Fred were most responsive to any of our needs. The location is great. Because we like to cook some meals, we could have used a big spaghetti pot and a few more coffee mugs. The furniture in our room neededa bit of loving care and some plumbing concerns. But these are small suggestions to a really good choice for lodging.
