Decades ago, the term âChinese take-outâ meant going to a counter in a tiny storefront where there were no tables, only chairs for those waiting for their orders, where âto goâ was the only option. Lately, those operations have been largely replaced by outfits like Panda Express, who dish up the food in cafeteria fashion and then ask the question, âFor here or to go?â So, imagine my surprise when during a business trip I encountered Kwanâs Chop Suey, a take-out only operation on West Road east of Interstate 75.Even the inclusion of Chop Suey in the name is a throwback, since Chop Suey was a dish created for Americans and is rarely served anymore. Although the sign advertises both Cantonese and Mandarin cuisine, there are many classic Cantonese-style dishes that those that have enjoyed Chinese food for a long time will recognize. NOTE that the food is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for your food.I ordered an old favorite of mine, Cashew Chicken. This is not the stir-fried version that many think of, itâs breaded and deep fried pieces of boneless chicken breast served on a bed of lettuce. The chicken was remarkably moist, and the cashew gravy for the chicken was delightful. The service was a bit matter-of-fact, but efficient and polite. I enjoyed my meal at Kwanâs and would certainly return should my business bring me back to the area.

Having recently moved back to the area after 25 years I found myself at Shong Hey and thought I might get something pretty good..I didn't. Asian restaurants are quite often very similar with a few exceptions. Shong Hey was exceptional in that it wasn't even as good as the chinese buffets in the area. My date and I had different entree's and both were just lackluster. Almond chicken and sweet and sour chicken were both over cooked tough over breaded and less than tasty..I was quite disappointed and will not be back..

Was good at first after the owner change, now it's just terrible. We tried something new this time and got the sweet and sour shrimp dinner, which ended up only having TWO pieces of shrimp, not worth the price you have to pay. The rice was bland and tasteless, the vegetable rice had hardly any bean sprouts or vegetables or the little mini corns that used to be in it. Looking for a new Chinese restaurant even though this had been a go-to for YEARS, not anymore, has gone downhill big time.

I love the sweet & sour chicken from China House. Also the Crab Ragoons are very good. Service is always very fast and good value.

Marika had fish and I had a noodle dish. Both were unexpectedly good, so I inquired about the origin of the sauces. I was told that they all were made from scratch onsite, even the tarter sauce that came with Marika's fish. Details of the place are Hungarian, right down to the red peppers hung over the door to the kitchen.
