The name "Manistee" is from an Ojibwe word first applied to the principal river of the county. The derivation is not certain, but it may be from ministigweyaa, "river with islands at its mouth". Other sources claim that it was an Ojibwe term meaning "spirit of the woods".

Weâve eaten here probably once a week for the last couple months- one of our favorite finds since moving up north! Their food is homestyle cooking- and itâs great! Everything weâve tried has been so good, and tastes like a home cooked meal. The prices are great, too, especially for the quality of food!

We stopped in here while traveling in the area. Taco salad was good but too many onions. Unless you are an onion lover. Meatloaf dinner was ok. Cute diner off the beaten path. We like giving local places our business. Would try this place again if in the area.

Cafe 1907 is a great place for breakfast (it might be great for lunch, but we've only eaten breakfast here). The food is great. The service is efficient. They readily accommodate our low-carb diet and provide good alternatives. Gotta love this place ...
